Minecraft’s next game drop has already been revealed as the Mounts of Mayhem — it’s bringing an awesome new weapon, watery mob, and more

Mojang Studios recently revealed upcoming features for Minecraft with The Copper Age, and they’re already looking ahead! The next update, called Mounts of Mayhem, will focus on underwater gameplay and was previewed at Minecraft LIVE on Saturday.

What is included in Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem?

As a researcher, I’m excited to announce a new creature we’ve discovered in Mounts of Mayhem: the Nautilus! This fascinating, tentacled beast lives deep in the ocean, and surprisingly, it can be tamed with Pufferfish. It makes an incredible mount, especially for exploring the darkest, coldest underwater areas. What’s really unique is that riding a Nautilus actually pauses your oxygen bar, so you don’t have to worry about surfacing for air! We’ve also found that players can craft Nautilus Armor using iron, gold, diamond, or even Netherite to protect their underwater companions. And the best part? If you tame a male and female Nautilus, they’ll naturally have adorable baby Nautiluses!

The Nautilus is a new creature, and like all creatures, it can be dangerous in certain situations. You’ll find water zombies riding on Zombie Nautiluses, attacking with tridents.

This update also adds the spear, a new weapon that’s easy to make. It lets you attack from a distance, making it safer than many other close-combat weapons, and you can even use it while riding a horse!

But don’t think you’ll be safe – the relentless zombies have learned to ride horses too, and will be roaming the world at night.

While there’s no exact release date yet, Mounts of Mayhem is planned to come out around the 2025 holiday season. That means players won’t have to wait much longer after the game’s initial preview to explore the underwater world with its unique creatures.

Minecraft has had a huge year so far

As a researcher tracking entertainment trends, I’ve been following the success of *A Minecraft Movie* this year. It’s been a major hit, earning impressive numbers at the box office and becoming the second highest-grossing video game movie ever – only surpassed by *The Super Mario Bros. Movie*. Produced by Warner Bros., Legendary Entertainment, and Mojang, the film is now available to own digitally and on 4K Blu-ray.

A new Minecraft movie is in the works, but details are still to come.

Good news for players: the Copper Age update arrives on September 30th! It introduces the highly anticipated Copper Golems and makes copper a valuable resource throughout the game.

During Minecraft LIVE, Mojang Studios also revealed a fun collaboration with Dragon Ball Z – you can get free Super Saiyan hair in the game until November 4, 2025.

Minecraft is available on almost all gaming systems, including Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. Plus, it’s included with Xbox Game Pass as a first-party Xbox game.
