I started at Windows Central writing about Minecraft, and I still cover news about it whenever Xbox and Mojang Studios release updates. I’ve reported on every Minecraft Live event since the beginning, sharing the latest announcements with our readers.
This time, I had to travel across the country for a confidential project (I’ll share details later), and unfortunately missed Minecraft Live in September 2025. Thankfully, my coworkers were able to cover things while I was away, but I’m determined to stay up-to-date on everything Minecraft.
If you weren’t able to watch Minecraft Live, here’s a rundown of everything that was announced, plus my reactions as a longtime Minecraft player.
Minecraft’s last update of 2025 gives us new ways to move
As a researcher following Minecraft’s development, it’s been a busy year so far! We’ve already seen some fantastic updates – ‘Spring to Life’ really expanded the variety of environments in the game, and ‘Happy Ghasts’ introduced a cool new flying mount along with graphical improvements. Plus, the ‘Copper Age’ update is releasing tomorrow, and I’m excited to dive into the details of that shortly.
Good news! Minecraft is getting another update this holiday season, and it’s called ‘Mounts of Mayhem.’ Don’t think of mountains, though – this update is all about new and stylish ways to get around the game. It looks like the Happy Ghast won’t be the only exciting thing happening this year!
Land, air, lava, and underwater — Minecraft is getting a mount for every occasion.
The upcoming Mounts of Mayhem update for Minecraft will include even more new features later this year, but right now, it’s best to think of the update as focusing on two main areas: mounts and combat.
Mojang is introducing the Nautilus, a new underwater creature! You can tame it using pufferfish, put a saddle on it (and even special Nautilus armor found in treasure chests), and then ride it around the ocean depths in a stylish way.
The Nautilus is easy to steer and has a quick boost similar to the Camel. Riding it also activates “Breath of the Nautilus,” which temporarily stops your air meter from decreasing, so you can explore, build, and battle underwater without fear of drowning. Plus, you can tame and breed multiple Nautilus to create unbelievably cute baby creatures!

Okay, so it’s not just about cool new player features! The bad guys are getting a serious upgrade too. Now, you’ll find these undead Nautilus creatures spawning, and get this – they can have a super-fast, trident-throwing Drowned riding on their back, chasing you down! And on land, Zombie Horses are finally appearing in Survival Mode, ridden by some seriously tough zombies. It’s like they’re leveling up their whole ‘Mounts of Mayhem’ thing, and it’s going to make things way more challenging – and honestly, pretty exciting!
The new Spear is a welcome addition to Minecraft’s weapons, and it’s different from the Mace introduced in the Tricky Trials update. Unlike the Mace, the Spear is a standard, craftable weapon – anyone can make one using two sticks and their preferred material.
The new Spear looks great, but I’d also like to see the basic fighting system in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition get some improvements.
Even a simple thrust with the Spear reaches further than other melee weapons in Minecraft. However, its real strength lies in charging attacks. When you lower the Spear and move forward, it damages any enemies it hits, with the damage increasing based on your speed.
We now have a way to protect ourselves while riding any mount – horses, camels, even fantastical creatures! However, zombie riders will also be equipped with this weapon, so we need to watch out for their quick attacks.
The new Spear looks fantastic, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how it can be customized with enchantments. However, I’ll be even happier if this update makes combat feel equally good on all versions of Minecraft. Currently, the Java Edition still has more engaging and fluid combat.
We’re one day away from a copper revolution in Minecraft
You likely already know about the Copper Age in Minecraft, as we’ve discussed it quite a bit. During Minecraft Live, we finally learned the release date for this update, so everyone can start enjoying it soon!
The Copper Age update is coming to Minecraft sooner than you think! It will be released on both Bedrock and Java Editions on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. In fact, if you’re reading this on the day it was published, that’s tomorrow!
If you want all the details on The Copper Age, I’ve covered it pretty extensively before, so definitely check that out. But for now, let me give you a quick rundown of what it’s all about.
I’m really excited about The Copper Age update for Minecraft! It’s focused on making copper way more useful and interesting – it’s not just a stepping stone to iron anymore. I even had a quick chat with Anna Lundgren, a Product Manager at Mojang, and she explained how much player feedback went into making this update what it is.
Right now, The Copper Age is easily my favorite Minecraft update of 2025.
A new, helpful creature called the Copper Golem is coming to the game. Unlike some other mobs, you won’t tame it – you’ll actually build it, similar to how you create an Iron Golem. The Copper Golem can automatically sort items when used with Copper Chests, and it will oxidize (change color) over time, just like other copper blocks. It can even turn into a Copper Golem Statue that sends out redstone signals based on its position. As a fun addition, players can have Iron Golems give the Copper Golem flowers – a feature that was added based on feedback from the Minecraft community!
The latest update offers exciting new possibilities with copper, including several attractive decorative blocks. It also bridges the gap between stone and iron equipment by adding a complete set of copper armor, weapons, tools, and even armor for mounts. But perhaps the most useful addition is the shelf, which lets you easily rearrange items in your hotbar by displaying and swapping them quickly.
The Copper Age update seems really promising, with a strong and unified design. Once it’s released tomorrow, I doubt anyone will have concerns about the value of copper anymore.
Minecraft collaborations keep getting better
Mojang Studios revealed two new Minecraft collaborations at their event. Although the Dragon Ball Z DLC is getting most of the attention, I find the other collaboration more appealing.
Minecraft is partnering with Conservation International, a group dedicated to protecting our planet, to launch the Friendly Fishing Add-On. This exciting new adventure expands the game with over 100 new underwater creatures, buildings, special armor, and different types of villagers, making fishing even more fun!
Here’s the great news: Microsoft has given $100,000 to Conservation International, and for the next three months, all the money earned from sales of the Friendly Fishing Add-On will also support their work protecting the environment. You can get it now for 990 Minecoins at the Minecraft Marketplace.

Mojang also announced an official Dragon Ball Z Add-On is coming to Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. Details are limited, but it will let players experience the world of the popular anime, and fans can start getting excited now!
Until November 4, 2025, Minecraft players can get a free Super Saiyan Hair Character Creator item from the Minecraft: Bedrock Edition Marketplace. While the full Dragon Ball Z content isn’t available yet, you can still transform into a Super Saiyan right now!
Over the past few years, Minecraft has collaborated with many popular franchises from both gaming and film, so it’s not surprising to see Dragon Ball Z join the list.
A good Minecraft Live that I’m sad I missed
I’ve written quite a bit about Minecraft Live (September 2025) already, so I’ll keep this brief. The event itself was short – under thirty minutes without the extra pre- and post-show content – but it still packed in a lot of announcements and reveals.
I’m really enjoying the Copper Age update in Minecraft, and it’s quickly become my favorite of the year. I can’t wait to see what surprises Mojang has in store for the upcoming ‘Mounts of Mayhem’ update that they haven’t revealed yet!
I’ve been thinking, with a Nautilus shell and a spear, I might actually get around to properly exploring Minecraft’s oceans. To be honest, I’ve never really wanted to deal with all the gear needed to breathe, mine, and survive down in those dark depths.
