Heather Dubrow Reveals Secret to Her, Terry Dubrow’s 29-Year Romance

Heather Dubrow is getting real about what it takes to make a marriage last.

The Real Housewives of Orange County star has been with her husband, Terry Dubrow, for almost 30 years. They are parents to 21-year-old twins, Nick and Max, as well as Kat, who is 18, and Ace, 14, and continue to strongly support each other.

Marriage needs a strong foundation of faith, and all relationships require effort,” Heather explained to Francesca Amiker from TopMob News at the Step Up 2025 Inspiration Awards on Sept. 26. “Terry and I have been together for 29 years, and we feel very fortunate.”

What I appreciate most about him is his consistent presence,” she went on. “He’s always cheerful, and he makes me feel beautiful regardless of what I’m wearing. Having a partner who does that simply gives you the self-assurance to go out and face anything.

The 56-year-old then talked about how much she values appreciating the good things in life.

To be honest, I don’t believe a perfect balance is achievable,” she explained. “Everyone discusses ‘having it all,’ but I think it’s more about recognizing that you already possess everything you need *right now*, wherever you are in life. Truly accepting this can completely change how you see things.

For Heather and her husband of 26 years, their children are a significant source of joy. TopMob recently reported that Terry spoke about how fortunate they are to have “such a rainbow of kids,” with three identifying as LGBTQ+.

“We were selected for this purpose. That’s simply what we’re meant to do with the influence we have,” he remembered saying to Heather. “Would I rather have been given the resources to become a multi-billionaire like Bill Gates, building hospitals globally, fighting disease, and traveling by private jet? Perhaps. But that wasn’t the opportunity the universe presented to me. This is the path I’ve been given, and I understand and appreciate that.”

As a long-time fan, it was really touching to hear the Botched star share that they want to be role models for families going through similar experiences. It means a lot to me that they’d want to use their platform to help others, and I think they’ll be amazing at it.

He explained that they’re committed if they can positively influence people’s perspectives by demonstrating what a healthy, loving family looks like. “We aim to lead by example in these discussions,” he said, “and Heather and I feel we’ve been given a unique opportunity – a platform – to share that, and we’re truly grateful.”

What advice would he give to parents who want to support their children the way he and Heather do?

Terry advised acting as if you’re being recorded and will be responsible for your behavior. He explained that this will “immediately remove all of your preconceived douchiness you might have.”

“Give your kids a supportive, loving environment,” he added. “That’s the perfect place to start.”

The Dance Moms alum didn’t give it a second thought when she came out in a 2021 Instagram story.

She shared that she came out at age 17, but didn’t fully grasp the significance of it then, telling People in October 2023, “I didn’t understand why that was scary.”

There was definitely a lot of good energy, support, and understanding, but also a lot of negativity,” she went on to say. “Honestly, I didn’t mind losing things – possessions, people, even fans – and I still don’t. That’s just because it’s true to who I am.”

While the “Flowers” singer was never a big fan of labels, she came out as pansexual in 2016.

For years, I struggled to understand my own identity – both my gender and my sexuality,” I shared with Variety back in October 2016. “I honestly always disliked the label ‘bisexual’ because it felt limiting, like it was putting me in a box. I’ve never really focused on whether someone is a boy or a girl; that’s just not how I think.

She went on to say, “Plus, I never saw my nipple pasties and things like that as being sexual. I became aware of sexuality around the fifth or sixth grade. My very first relationship was with a girl.”

For Matt, telling his traditionally religious family he was gay was a turning point, beginning a fresh chapter in his life.

Sharing the news with his family was a really significant moment,” the White Collar actor – who has three children with his husband Simon Halls – explained to OUT Magazine. “I see my life as being split into two parts: before I came out to my parents, and after. The choices I made and how I lived my life were dramatically different before and after – it was a complete change.”

The singer of “Good Luck, Babe!” shared that she doesn’t always feel as self-assured and at ease as people might think. Her upbringing in the Midwest was a significant factor in shaping who she is.

She explained to Rolling Stone that she used to be afraid of openly gay people, because that’s what she was taught. She later understood that people dislike flamboyant gay men because they express femininity, and there’s a general prejudice against women. She described having a realization, saying, ‘Oh my God, this is just so fked.’

It required a lot of effort to change my way of thinking, and I’m still figuring things out. That’s why I sometimes feel uneasy about being gay,” she explained. “I don’t understand why I struggle with this. It really shouldn’t be a problem, but something is happening, and I need to come to terms with it.”

Oh my gosh, you guys, I was *screaming* when I saw The Bachelorette alum on The View! She finally confirmed it – she’s seriously with Robby Hoffman, the comedian! And get this – they actually got married in January 2025! I’ve been shipping them for ages, and it’s just *so* amazing to finally hear it officially. I’m obsessed!

She shared in an August 2023 episode that she hadn’t talked about it much, explaining,

She continued, explaining, “I always had this inner feeling, but it gradually became stronger.” She admitted she hadn’t initially recognized its importance. “When something like this occurs, there’s often a sense of shame, and I had to work through that – understand what it was and where it originated.”

The Mean Girls star, who had previously shared she was bisexual, publicly came out as a lesbian in January 2024-during an appearance on Saturday Night Live. Her friends were supportive of her decision and played a part in it.

She later told Billboard that she unexpectedly found herself surrounded by people who identified as nonbinary, transgender, or lesbian. She explained, ‘Being with you all makes me so happy, and I really feel like I want to identify as a lesbian when I’m around you.’

The former late-night host officially came out as queer on the last day of Pride month in 2024.

I’m coming out, and honestly, it’s no surprise to anyone!” she announced in an Instagram post from June 2024. She was wearing a tank top with the word “Queer” on it.

“Be confident and happy with yourselves, everyone!” she went on. “And I fully expect to face prejudice for something else new!!”

Prior to sharing her sexual orientation, the actress-who previously starred on Disney Channel-felt anxious about publicly identifying as queer.

She shared with Gay Times in May 2021 that she’d been subtly referencing her sexuality for years, but was hesitant to state it directly. She explained that she created a lyric video for her song ‘We Belong’ the previous year, featuring animated drawings of couples falling in love. She noted it was strange for her because the video initially only showed a man and a woman kissing.

After the song was released, many people believed it was a powerful anthem for the LGBTQ+ community, and I suddenly felt like I was being accused of queerbaiting,” she explained. “I went on Instagram Live to clarify, saying, ‘Hey everyone, I need to share something with you. I may not have explicitly stated it before, but I identify as queer. It’s important to me to express this part of my identity through my music because it’s genuinely who I am.’

The “Heart Attack” singer came out as nonbinary in a 2021 Instagram post.

As a lifestyle expert, I truly believe that each new day is a fresh start – another opportunity and chance to become the person you aspire to be. I’ve personally spent most of my life growing up in the public eye… you’ve witnessed my highs, my lows, and everything in between. It’s been an incredible journey, not just for me, but also knowing I was living for all of you on the other side of the cameras.

I’m so thrilled to finally share this part of my journey with you all – I’m proud to say I identify as non-binary, and I’ll be using they/them pronouns going forward,” Demi-who now uses she/her pronouns again-explained. “It’s been a real process of healing and looking inward to get here. I’m still figuring things out and discovering who I am, and I definitely don’t see myself as an expert or someone who speaks for everyone else. Opening up about this feels incredibly vulnerable, but it’s important to me.

Although the Bachelor alumna has been with singer Hayley Kiyoko since 2018, she waited four years before publicly acknowledging her sexuality. While she initially felt strange after people learned about her relationship, she realized the positive effect of openly sharing who she is.

She explained to TopMob News in June 2022 that this situation was about more than just her and her relationship. She felt it was important if her experience could make anyone else feel comfortable or courageous about who they love. She said it was incredibly humbling to read comments suggesting her story had made a difference, and it made her realize how significant even something as simple as falling in love and sharing it can be.

At 15, Troye came out to his family, and three years later, he shared his story with the public in a YouTube video. He later explained that his decision to come out happened during a particularly important time in his life.

He explained to People in February 2022 that he was on the verge of signing his record contract and felt strongly about controlling his public image. “I didn’t want anyone else dictating how I came out,” he said. “I wanted the freedom to start going out, experiencing gay clubs, and meeting people, and to write honest and heartfelt songs about love.”

The Selling Sunset star-who is married to singer G Flip-emphasizes how vital it is to make taking care of yourself a priority.

According to Chrishell, who started dating the Australian singer in 2022 and spoke with TopMob News, if someone genuinely cares for you, your well-being should be more important than what they believe. She emphasized, “Never change yourself to fit what others want for you. Your life is your own, and you only get one chance at it.”

This TikTok creator-who is openly gay and attends an all-boys high school-is using his online presence to inspire others to embrace their true selves and feel comfortable with who they are.

I anticipate my identity will likely be a point of discussion, depending on who I’m speaking to,” Chris explained to TopMob News in October 2022. “Therefore, a key goal in using this platform is to challenge those preconceptions and help people see my identity as something ordinary.
