Okay, so I’m super hyped because a new MMO is dropping next month, and get this – it’s going to be on Xbox Game Pass right away! That brings the total number of day-one games hitting Game Pass in October to nine. We don’t know *how long* it’ll stay on the service, but it’s awesome because it saves us the full $30 price tag. Seriously, that’s a huge win for subscribers like me! I can’t wait to check it out.
For players on Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X, the new game is launching exclusively on PC, meaning it will only be available through Xbox Game Pass PC. Currently, there’s no confirmation about a release on consoles, but developers haven’t said it won’t happen either. This means a console version is still a possibility.
About the Game
Coming soon to Xbox Game Pass on day one is Pax Dei. The game was originally announced in 2023 by its creators, Mainframe Industries, and publisher New Tales. It became available through Steam Early Access in 2024, and player feedback has been varied. The complete version of the game is scheduled to launch on October 16.
The game is described as a social MMO where you can freely explore and build, combining historical medieval Europe with elements of mythology. In this open-world experience, you’ll create your character and interact with others while establishing a home, venturing into the surrounding wilds, participating in clan rivalries, and creating your own story. What really sets this game apart is its detailed home-building system. While other MMOs include this feature, Pax Dei focuses on it much more deeply. The game also features third-person RPG combat, which, like many MMOs, appears fairly standard.
Like most online games, you can anticipate ongoing updates and live service features, along with an optional subscription that costs $4 per month. While a subscription isn’t necessary to play, it does offer several perks.
Struggling So Far
As we’ve mentioned, the initial response to Pax Dei has been somewhat mixed during its early access period, but this isn’t really about how good the game *is*. Even players who haven’t enjoyed it acknowledge the game has promise. The main complaints center around how the game is being sold and other business choices, not the gameplay itself. While a subscription isn’t necessary, and there aren’t any small purchases within the game, some players worry that these options *could* lead to a situation where paying players have an unfair advantage. It remains to be seen if these worries are justified. Fortunately, those with an Xbox Game Pass PC subscription don’t need to spend $30 to try it out and see for themselves.
With that being said, please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below, or discuss it further on the ComicBook Forum. If this new release isn’t quite what you’re looking for, you might enjoy a recently added RPG from Square Enix.
