The long-awaited crossover between the expansive Monster Hunter Wilds and Final Fantasy 14 is nearly here for fans of the online game, and a new trailer has given us a glimpse of the upcoming content – and, unfortunately, also revealed what won’t be included.
Today is September 29th, and that marks the arrival of the final content for the Final Fantasy 14 collaboration in Capcom’s action RPG, Monster Hunter Wilds. This includes two character classes from the Square Enix MMO, a boss fight against Omega Planetes, and other exciting additions. However, Final Fantasy 14 players will have to wait until October 7th to receive their own Monster Hunter Wilds content. Luckily, a new trailer has been released to keep fans entertained until then, although it doesn’t quite fulfill every expectation.
The video showcases a challenging new battle against Arkveld, a massive wyvern and one of the most difficult bosses in Monster Hunter Wilds. It features quick, skillful gameplay, impressive new weapons inspired by Arkveld, a cute baby Seikret companion, a Palico that can be ridden like a cart, and other exciting content. However, the video doesn’t reveal an Arkveld mount, which many Final Fantasy 14 players were especially hoping to see.
This stems partly from a Capcom and Square Enix event back in August 2018 – a full seven years ago – where Monster Hunter World and Final Fantasy 14 teamed up. Players could earn a special Rathalos mount in the MMO as a reward. So, it’s understandable that fans hoped for a similar mount with this new collaboration, and recent online conversations show how disappointed they are after seeing the trailer for the crossover.
One Reddit user commented that the only thing this is lacking is an Arkveld mount, but they appreciated the cart nonetheless. Another responded, saying they’re hoping the Arkveld mount is being saved as a surprise, but noted that Yoshi-P usually reveals everything that’s coming in the game. I share that hope as a fellow Warrior of Light – although I’m not getting my hopes up too much. Someone else expressed a similar feeling, stating it’s a “shame that we don’t get Arkveld as a mount.”
Generally, the community is really excited about the Monster Hunter Wilds collaboration (I am too!), with many players sharing their enthusiasm for the Arkveld gear, the Palico cart mount, the upcoming trial, and other features. One fan perfectly captured the feeling, saying that even without a rideable Arkveld mount, “this is the biggest collaboration Square Enix has ever done” – and that’s reason enough to be excited.
