Opera has launched Neon, a completely new web browser designed around artificial intelligence. It’s built with AI-powered features and ‘agents’ to help users. Opera joins other companies like Perplexity, The Browser Company, and Microsoft in creating these ‘AI browsers,’ a growing trend that some question the demand for.
Neon will cost $19.19 per month and unlocks Opera’s special AI features built directly into the browser. Opera describes Neon as being able to proactively help you by organizing tasks and completing them while you browse. A key feature, called Neon Do, uses AI to automatically open and close tabs and take actions on webpages for you.
This tool can search the internet and gather information from multiple websites, presenting it to you directly – so you don’t have to do the searching yourself. This is all powered by a feature called Tasks.
Opera describes Tasks as dedicated workspaces that leverage AI to understand what you’re working on. This allows the AI to analyze information, compare sources, and take action across multiple websites simultaneously. Essentially, Tasks creates a focused, mini-browser for each project, with the AI acting as a helpful assistant within that specific context.
Opera Neon features a new ‘Card’ system that simplifies using AI features. It’s currently available to a limited group of Windows and macOS users, with wider release planned for the coming weeks. Keep in mind that Opera Neon requires a monthly subscription costing $19.90.
