One Piece is causing concern among fans due to a recently announced delay for the upcoming issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. October is already shaping up to be a difficult month for One Piece fans, as the anime has recently aired some of its most exciting moments from the Egghead Arc, and will then go on a two-week hiatus before the next new episode. Now, it appears the manga release from Eiichiro Oda will also be delayed, according to a new report.
One Piece Chapter 1162 was expected to be released with Shonen Jump on Sunday, October 5th, but it looks like Eiichiro Oda won’t be able to meet that deadline. According to @WSJ_manga on X, there aren’t any specific details available, but the manga is taking an unexpected break next week, meaning it will be delayed. This sudden postponement is concerning fans, who are worried about Oda’s health. The rigorous schedule of Shonen Jump has caused health problems for several well-known creators in the past.
One Piece Fans Worried Over Last-Minute Delay
It hasn’t been officially announced yet, but there’s some uncertainty about whether One Piece’s manga will be delayed from its planned release date. Currently, it’s still listed as scheduled on Viz Media’s digital Shonen Jump. However, a delay would be concerning if it suggests Eiichiro Oda has been unwell and unable to finish the next chapter. More than the chapter’s release, though, fans are primarily worried about Oda’s health.
One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda has often concerned fans with details about his incredibly busy work life at Shonen Jump. He’s not only continuing to release new chapters of the series – which is currently in its Final Saga – but he’s also heavily involved in various franchise projects. These include the ongoing Netflix live-action adaptation, the weekly anime series, and a brand new anime remake also with Netflix, all happening simultaneously.
What Does This Mean for Shonen Jump?

It’s well known that Shonen Jump places significant demands on its manga artists. They are expected to publish new chapters weekly, and only those with a large and dedicated fanbase have the flexibility to adjust their schedule. This rigorous pace has unfortunately taken a toll on the health of many creators, a fact that has become even more apparent with the recent, unexpected passing of several artists at younger ages.
This isn’t necessarily happening with Oda, and fans aren’t overly concerned about this delay either, but it’s still worth remembering how the Shonen Jump schedule generally works. While there have been changes in recent years – with most series being shorter than they used to be – it doesn’t fully address the underlying problem. Hopefully, Oda is healthy, and this additional week provides him with the rest he needs.
