Marvel Rivals is finally getting cross-progression — it’s been “frantically cooking in development” until now

Marvel Rivals, the free-to-play game from NetEase Games, is adding a highly anticipated feature: cross-progression. This means you’ll soon be able to carry your progress across different platforms.

The game’s Creative Director, Guangguang, announced that the team has been working hard to make this happen, and it’s almost ready. To ensure a smooth launch, they’re first testing it with a small group of players starting October 10th with the release of Season 4.5. If everything goes well, cross-progression will be available to all players with Season 5.

It’s important to note that player rankings and leaderboards will still be separate for each platform. To enable cross-progression, players will need to go to the game’s Settings, then Other, then Account Linking, and choose a main account. You can switch your main account later, but there will be a waiting period between changes – the length of which hasn’t been announced yet.

Since it launched, Marvel Rivals has allowed players on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5 to play together. Plus, the game offers cross-progression, so you can use all the skins and emotes you’ve unlocked or bought on any platform – perfect for players who switch between devices.

What else is coming to Marvel Rivals soon?

Okay, so I’m super excited about the upcoming Marvel Rivals Season 4.5 update! We’re finally getting Daredevil as a playable character, which makes total sense given his fighting style. Honestly, I was hoping for another Vanguard type character after Angela dropped, but Daredevil as a Duelist fits perfectly.

Please, please, *please* let the next character in Season 5 be a Strategist! It’s been ages since we got one – Ultron was way back in Season 2.5!

Guangguang also announced a Halloween event, and they’re giving some awesome spooky skins to characters like Blade, Jeff the Land Shark, and Peni Parker. The concept art looks really promising, so I can’t wait to see the final designs.

They’re still working on balance changes for the update, but here’s the sad news: Ragnarok Rebirth is getting removed (I knew it was too good to be true that Thor could have two team-ups!). But on the bright side, Hela is getting a new team-up with Namor. That means Namor is leaving the Hulk’s team-up, so we won’t see those gamma laser squids anymore.

And finally, a new game mode is coming! We’ll get all the details on October 12th at the Thailand Game Show, so stay tuned!

I’m thrilled more and more games are embracing cross-progression

I’ve talked to many game developers about cross-progression, and they all agree it’s surprisingly complex to implement. I appreciate how challenging it is, so I’m really happy to see more games offering this feature. I often switch between playing on my Xbox Series X and my PC, and it’s fantastic to be able to continue my progress seamlessly between platforms.

That’s a big reason why I like Xbox Play Anywhere, although it’s especially useful for free-to-play multiplayer games.

*Marvel Rivals is currently available as a free-to-play game on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.*
