4 Theories for Peacemaker’s Final Episodes That Set Up the DCU’s Future (#3 Would Be Wild)

The big secret is finally revealed in Peacemaker‘s sixth episode of Season 2. After weeks of guessing, “Ignorance Is Chris” confirms the most common fan theory: the main character is actually on Earth-X. This alternate world is one where the Nazis won World War II and control the entire planet. Christopher Smith is unaware of the reality around him because this new version of Earth provides him with everything he desires – family, affection, and constant approval. However, discovering the truth deeply disturbs him, and it’s something he’ll have to confront in the last two episodes of the season.

Although Episodes 7 and 8 appear to be relatively simple – the 11th Street Kids will probably start a conflict with the Nazis pretending to be saviors – James Gunn has assured us that major surprises are coming. Here are four theories about the final episodes of Peacemaker that could pave the way for what’s next in the DC Universe.

4) Vigilante Finally Comes Into His Own

As Peacemaker Season 2 nears its conclusion, Adrian Chase, also known as Vigilante, is the biggest unknown. He’s pursuing a separate goal from the rest of the team. Once he reaches Earth-X, Adrian finds his alternate self and discovers the truth about the Top Trio. This shocking revelation might lead Vigilante to side with the Sons of Liberty and overthrow the country’s oppressive government. If he succeeds, Vigilante could prove himself worthy of his own spin-off series.

3) Nazi Superman Is in Charge

“Ignorance Is Chris” includes the largest cameo appearance so far in Peacemaker, with Rick Flag Sr. going to Belle Reeve to consult Lex Luthor about alternate realities. Their discussion strongly hints at the Man of Steel, though they never mention him directly. It’s possible James Gunn is deliberately avoiding naming him to mislead viewers. Gunn has stated that Superman won’t be involved in this project, but he might be referring to the hero from the main Earth, leaving the possibility of an evil counterpart appearing to challenge Peacemaker and his team.

2) Lex Luthor Seizes His Opportunity

I’ve learned that the only way Flag Sr. can get Luthor to play along is by offering him a transfer back to Metropolis. While A.R.G.U.S. is tied up with Peacemaker and everything going on with Earth-X, Luthor can start planning his escape, getting everything ready before the events of Man of Tomorrow unfold. It’s a tough ask, because James Gunn really wants his projects to be fun and engaging, not feel like a chore, but honestly, it seems inevitable that Luthor will break out of prison eventually.

1) Earth-X Is Here to Stay

What’s most surprising about the final episodes of Peacemaker is that they conclude with Chris choosing to stay with his family, even though it’s uncertain if Emilia Harcourt and the others will welcome him back. Instead of providing a completely resolved ending, Gunn unexpectedly introduces Earth-X as a continuing element within his series, opening the door for future storylines.

Peacemaker Season 2 is streaming on HBO Max.
