3 Jedi That Are Secretly More Powerful Than Anakin Skywalker

In the Star Wars universe, all Force-sensitive individuals who join the Jedi Temple learn about the legend of the Chosen One. This prophecy predicts that a uniquely powerful person will one day appear and bring balance to the Force by vanquishing the Sith. While it seems like a hopeful tale, Qui-Gon Jinn believes he has found this individual when he meets young Anakin Skywalker on Tatooine. The Jedi Council is initially skeptical, and hesitant to train Anakin due to his age. However, Anakin quickly proves them wrong, becoming one of the most celebrated Jedi in history.

Throughout the Clone Wars, Anakin Skywalker really develops into a skilled and powerful warrior, overcoming almost every challenge he faces. But his biggest flaw is his pride – he struggles to believe anyone can truly match his strength. Here are three Jedi who are, secretly, more powerful than he is.

3) Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi, the apprentice of Qui-Gon, finds it difficult to understand Anakin’s complex situation, but he agrees to train him. However, Obi-Wan has trouble teaching Anakin, as his natural power is far greater than anything he’s previously encountered. The challenges they face together are serious, and Anakin frequently takes charge due to his impulsive nature.

I’ve always found it fascinating how Anakin sometimes underestimates Obi-Wan. While Anakin prefers to be aggressive and strike first, Obi-Wan is perfectly capable of matching his intensity when necessary. It really struck me that Obi-Wan actually *defeated* Anakin on two separate occasions! And the third time they faced each other, it was even more telling – Obi-Wan didn’t even try to win the duel. He knew his mission was more important than a personal victory, and that showed a level of selflessness Anakin hadn’t quite grasped yet. It’s a testament to Obi-Wan’s skill and focus, really – he’s not just about defense, he knows when to prioritize the bigger picture. It’s a subtle but powerful dynamic.

2) Mace Windu

The Jedi who doubts Anakin the most is Mace Windu, and he doesn’t offer the boy much understanding. He constantly criticizes the young Jedi, and even publicly humiliates him – for example, he reprimands Anakin for being frustrated about not receiving the rank of Master. However, Anakin gets a chance to confront his harshest critic in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

When Mace Windu leads a team of Jedi to arrest Chancellor Palpatine, he’s the sole survivor, leaving him to confront the Dark Lord of the Sith by himself. Palpatine seems to be intentionally holding back, wanting Anakin to witness what he sees as the Jedi’s flaws, but Mace is a formidable opponent. If the fight were even, Mace could use his understanding of both the light and dark sides of the Force to show Anakin the importance of remaining calm.

1) Luke Skywalker

Even though Obi-Wan had doubts about training Anakin when he was just nine, he begins Luke Skywalker’s training at nineteen. Luckily, the farm boy quickly learns the ways of the Jedi and uses the Force to destroy the Death Star in Star Wars: A New Hope. He does experience a significant setback in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back with the loss of his hand, but he recovers strongly.

By the time Star Wars: Return of the Jedi arrives, Luke has become a fully realized Jedi Master, demonstrating greater mastery of the Force than his father ever achieved. He’s also quite skilled with a lightsaber, easily winning his duel with Darth Vader aboard the second Death Star. While Anakin Skywalker never fully lived up to his potential, Luke ultimately fulfills the destiny of the Chosen One.
