The Last Caretaker for PC launches in Early Access on November 6

I’m so excited! The first-person shooter The Last Caretaker, which is all about surviving in the ocean, is coming to Early Access on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store on November 6th, according to Channel37, the developers. They’re planning a complete release on PC and some consoles too, though they haven’t said which ones yet!

The Early Access release provides a complete and playable survival experience with a solid base, featuring things like managing resources as they change, a detailed and believable game world, and the ability to create and reuse items. The complete game, which isn’t expected for at least a year, will include more complex gameplay, additional content, and improvements to the core systems based on what players think.

Here is an overview of the game, via its store pages:

About

Experience a thrilling survival adventure where you play in first-person, sailing the seas, collecting resources, and working to rebuild civilization in a vast, endless ocean. Find and restore forgotten technology, create essential systems, and secure the future of humanity before time runs out. Learn more and begin your journey!

I’m the Last Caretaker, basically a robot who just woke up after centuries of being offline. Things aren’t great – the Earth is totally flooded, and all those huge buildings are just… rusting away under the sky. Luckily, the Seed Vaults are still intact, holding the last hope for humanity – the seeds to start all over. My job? Well, it’s pretty simple, but also a *lot* of pressure. I need to find those seeds, get the Lazarus Complex working again, and send what’s left of humanity out to the stars. It’s a big task, but someone’s gotta do it!

However, the world isn’t as desolate as it appears. Machines continue to communicate using outdated systems, remnants of a bygone era still function with intention, and each step you take leads you nearer to understanding the purpose of your life.

Key Features

  • Explore – Sail across a vast open-world ocean, navigating through the remains of a forgotten civilization. From towering megastructures and flickering beacons to abandoned seed vaults and fuel stations, every location holds lost knowledge, vital resources, and pieces of a mystery waiting to be uncovered.
  • Create – Scavenge and restore ancient technology, craft modular upgrades, and reactivate vital systems to rebuild MOSES infrastructure. Each innovation brings humanity closer to survival, from reviving power grids to reconstructing launch systems.
  • Nurture – The Lazarus Complex is the last human sanctuary. Monitor and optimize the delicate process of human seed growth, balancing power, nutrition, and memory reconstruction. Every launch to the stars brings humanity one step closer to a future beyond the ocean.
  • Survive – The ocean is beautiful—but it is not safe. Rogue machines, brutal storms, and limited resources challenge your mission at every turn. Adapt, upgrade, and fight to protect what little remains.
  • Discover – You are not human, yet you hold their future in your hands. What does it mean to be human? Can life be reborn through synthetic hands? As you explore, you will uncover the last days of Earth—and the truth behind your existence.
