Just five days before players on PC were set to begin early access, Redemption Road announced that Kingmakers would be delayed again. They didn’t provide a new date for release, but instead offered an apology and explained why the game needed more time.
Simply put: This is a really bold and detailed game, and we’re determined to include everything we’ve planned, even if it means taking a little longer to release it. From the beginning, we’ve aimed to build something truly unique – different from anything else available in terms of how you play, its size, the range of content, and how much you can interact with the game world.
The developer explained they are really pushing the Unreal Engine 4 to its maximum capabilities to get a smooth 60 frames per second on computers that aren’t super high-end, and they’re doing it without using tricks to create the illusion of more frames. “Right now, we have tens of thousands of soldiers, and each one has artificial intelligence and movement that’s as good as you’d find in a top-quality third-person game. Even when you leave a battle, it keeps happening on its own. Everything you see is real, we aren’t faking anything.”
The game also features dynamic elements that create opportunities for interaction, like lumber mills that can turn into battlegrounds, or trees that fall and damage soldiers nearby. Players can freely explore the expansive map on each server, either solo or leading a large “personal army” of thousands.
We originally planned to create this with complete, easy-to-use 4 player multiplayer, and we’ve achieved that. We simply need a little more time to refine the content and ensure it’s polished before we’re comfortable offering it for sale.
Despite early excitement for “The Day Before 2” on Steam, the developers at Redemption Road have announced they’ll be sharing a detailed, half-hour gameplay showcase “very soon.” This will include a “comprehensive overview” of all their progress. Keep an eye out for further news, including a potential new release date, in the next few weeks.
I was so excited when Kingmakers was announced last year! It’s a really cool mix of genres – it’s a third-person shooter where you’re running around with modern weapons, but the setting is a medieval war! It’s not just about shooting though, because you can also switch to a top-down view and command your own army. Basically, you’re destroying enemy soldiers up close and directing the bigger strategy – it sounds awesome!
