Blood West coming to PS5, Xbox Series on October 16

On October 16th, New Blood Interactive and Hyperstrange will release Blood West, a stealth-focused first-person shooter, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. Alongside the game, the downloadable content pack, “Dead Man’s Promise”, will also be available.

Blood West initially became available on PC through Steam in Early Access on February 10, 2022, and then had its complete release on December 5, 2023. The expansion, “Dead Man’s Promise,” was released on December 18, 2024.

Three Episodes Offering Over 20 Hours of Play

As a huge fan, I’m so excited about the worlds in this game! We’re talking about The Canyons, The Swamp, and The Mountains – each one packed with terrifying monsters and seriously creepy demons. The best part is, you can explore them however you want, at your own speed. From what I’ve heard, it’ll take around 20+ hours just to finish the main storylines in all three areas. But if you’re a completionist like me and want to uncover *everything* these desolate lands hide, you’re looking at over 35 hours of gameplay! It’s going to be epic.

Rewarding Classic Stealth First-Person Shooter Gameplay

Blood West is a first-person shooter where you focus on stealth, taking inspiration from classic games like the Thief series (fans will recognize Stephen Russell, who voiced Garrett, returning as the main character), the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, and more recently, Hunt: Showdown. The game encourages a thoughtful playstyle: explore the area, sneak up on your enemies, and attack from hiding. The challenge? Can you clear out a fort filled with ghouls and monsters without being detected?

Weird West Legends Meet Eldritch Horror

The Barren Lands offer players a disturbing and warped take on classic Wild West stories. A powerful curse has ruined the land and everything living on it, twisting the environment and bringing forth troubled ghosts and sinister creatures. This world blends the feel of old Western adventures with Lovecraftian horror, where dangerous occult magic is just as deadly as a gunshot. In this setting, both dark spells and sudden lead poisoning pose significant threats.

Unusual Characters and Their Questlines

In Blood West, you’ll encounter a lot of memorable and somewhat eccentric, fully-voiced characters. Like you, they’re trapped in the harsh Barren Lands, and they’ll often share their unique tales and give you different tasks. Treat them well, and they might offer rewards or become your friends. But be careful-antagonize them, and you could face their anger.

Non-Linear Maps Full of Secrets to Find

This game doesn’t offer much guidance. You’ll need to explore the world on your own – getting a map from a shopkeeper could be helpful! – and decide how to tackle each quest. While discovering the three large areas, be sure to search for secret locations and hidden treasures. There’s gold to be found in the mountains, but be warned-it’s likely cursed!

Brutal Combat Against a Varied Cast of Foes

If you don’t prefer stealth, or you’re stronger than your opponents, you can always fight them directly and aggressively. Blood West is created by the same team behind the popular retro shooter POSTAL: Brain Damaged, meaning you can anticipate plenty of over-the-top violent action and pixelated blood effects!

Scavenging and Resource Management

What one person considers useless, another might treasure! The Barren Lands are overflowing with STUFF – everything from everyday items like bandages and medical solutions, to dangerous explosives, and even powerful, mystical artifacts. These artifacts, when equipped, can completely alter your gameplay. You’ll find plenty of helpful items, and a special crate to store all those incredibly rare potions you’ll collect… and probably never use!

Great Variety of Impactful Weapons

Without a gun, a gunslinger is just an ordinary person. What’s the excitement in that? Blood West ensures you’ll have lots of weapons at your disposal. You’ll find revolvers, rifles, shotguns, and carbines-a huge range of firearms, including standard military weapons, magically enhanced guns, and even some that are fully possessed. If you’d rather fight quietly, there’s also a wide array of melee weapons and archery options to choose from.

Perk and Skill-Based Character Progression

In Blood West, you can really shape how you play thanks to a perk system inspired by RPGs. You can become a sneaky hunter, a quick-drawing gunslinger, or a powerful berserker. As you gain experience, you’ll unlock skills in a detailed skill tree and find artifacts in each scenario that give you even more abilities. Mixing these skills with different equipment lets you create many unique playstyles, offering more variety than you’d usually get in a single game.
