The Jedi Order in Star Wars is the most powerful organization dedicated to keeping peace throughout the galaxy. The Republic trusts them so much that they don’t feel the need for a traditional army, until Sheev Palpatine secretly builds one with the intention of eliminating the Jedi. What truly sets the Jedi apart, of course, is their connection to the Force and their mastery of lightsabers. Jedi spend many years in training, perfecting their abilities and adhering to the Order’s strict guidelines. With dedication, they hope to earn a place on the Jedi Council.
During the prequel trilogy, the Jedi Council typically consisted of about a dozen members. While each Jedi Master contributed unique skills and perspectives, they were all undeniably powerful in the Force. Below is a ranking, based on power, of every member of the Star Wars’ Jedi Council who appears in the films.
19) Yarael Poof

How long someone has been on the Council is really important, because it shows just how powerful they are. Yarael Poof, however, isn’t known for his fighting skills; he prefers to use his intelligence. Because he doesn’t have much combat experience, he likely lacks confidence in battle.
18) Coleman Trebor

It’s surprising that Coleman Trebor was included, considering how he performed in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. He seemed a bit too sure of himself and challenged Count Dooku, but ultimately Jango Fett shot him down. Still, you could say he tried his best.
17) Coleman Kcaj

The name “Coleman” hasn’t fared well in the Star Wars universe. Coleman Kcaj, a member of the Jedi Council, is given very little to do. Although additional stories show he survives the Great Jedi Purge, he doesn’t seem to accomplish much with his continued existence. It’s a disappointing fate for a Jedi Master.
16) Oppo Rancisis

Like Kcaj, Oppo Rancisis managed to survive the Great Jedi Purge after spending his days seated in a chair. While stories suggest he was one of the wisest members of the Jedi Council, he notably remains quiet during the most important events in the series.
15) Adi Gallia

Adi Gallia’s defeat by Savage Opress isn’t a good reflection on her. Even though she was a very active participant in the Clone Wars and often won battles through strategy, she struggled when facing a direct physical threat. One positive takeaway is that she did manage to engage in a fight.
14) Even Piell

Jedi Master Even Piell, a Lannik male, was quite active in his duties, notably assisting Captain Tarkin in finding the Nexus Route. Unfortunately, he was killed by an anooba – a dangerous creature, but not nearly on the same level of power as a Sith Lord. Piell’s service was valuable despite his untimely demise.
13) Eeth Koth

General Grievous severely wounds Eeth Koth, leading Koth to leave the Jedi Order. Even retiring and giving up his cloak doesn’t bring Koth peace, as Darth Vader eventually tracks him down and kills him. Facing off against both Grevious and Vader demonstrates Koth’s bravery and earns him respect, despite the ultimate outcome.
12) Agen Kolar

Mace Windu requests that three Jedi join him in arresting Chancellor Palpatine, and Agen Kolar is one of them. While Kolar doesn’t survive the confrontation, he manages to put up a fight before falling – a slightly better outcome than some other Jedi Masters on this list.
12) Shaak Ti

Throughout the Clone Wars, Shaak Ti consistently demonstrated her skill as a Jedi, destroying numerous droids and surviving to recount her battle with General Grievous. The main reason she isn’t ranked even higher is the franchise’s habit of killing her off in various stories.
10) Ki-Adi-Mundi

Okay, putting the whole thing with the droids attacking the Wookies to the side, I really think Ki-Adi-Mundi is a hugely important figure on the Jedi Council. Yoda clearly sees something special in him – he trusts him enough to send him out across the galaxy to fight in battles. I know his death seems a little underwhelming, and makes him look weak, but he managed to survive for a long time, and I think there’s a good reason for that. He wasn’t just *there*, he was a valuable asset.
9) Saesee Tiin

The second Jedi to fall in the battle against Palpatine was Saesee Tiin, and he fought bravely. It’s understandable that he held out as long as he did, considering his experience in many important battles throughout the Clone Wars.
8) Depa Billaba

Although Depa Billaba once learned from Mace Windu, she isn’t present when he confronts the Dark Lord of the Sith. She’s occupied with her own struggles, dedicating her time to training Caleb Dume, who would eventually become known as Kanan Jarrus. The knowledge Billaba imparts to her student demonstrates that she is a powerful Jedi.
7) Yaddle

Without Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, Yaddle would likely be ranked very low on this list. While she strongly resembles Yoda, she doesn’t really *do* much in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. However, her fight with Count Dooku in Tales of the Jedi changes everything, finally giving her a chance to demonstrate her abilities.
6) Kit Fisto

Besides Mace Windu, Kit Fisto presents a significant challenge to Palpatine during their duel in the office. Palpatine’s associate, General Grievous, also clashes with the Nautolan Jedi. Because he rarely speaks, Fisto dedicates the majority of his time to training.
5) Plo Koon

While Anakin Skywalker is often recognized for helping Ahsoka Tano become a skilled Force user, Plo Koon also plays a vital role. He’s the one who initially discovers her potential abilities. Koon possesses a strong connection to the Force – one many Jedi would envy – and he’s also quite proficient with a lightsaber.
4) Obi-Wan Kenobi

Qui-Gon Jinn dislikes the Jedi Council, feeling that its rules and procedures will ultimately harm the Jedi Order. However, his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi, doesn’t share this view and accepts a position on the Council when it’s offered. The Council made the right choice in inviting him, as he proves capable of facing off against several Sith Lords, including the rising Darth Vader.
3) Mace Windu

The prequel films establish that Windu is Yoda’s most trusted advisor, consistently making difficult decisions. He earns this role through his success in combat, winning almost every fight he participates in. The only individual who defeats him is the Sith Lord, who also defeats the next Jedi on this list.
2) Yoda

While Yoda generally avoids using his lightsaber, he won’t hesitate if he has to. Count Dooku nearly loses his life when he challenges his former teacher, and Darth Sidious only defeats the little green Jedi because the power of the dark side is incredibly strong in Revenge of the Sith.
1) Anakin Skywalker

Anakin is deeply upset about not being made a Master. He reacts badly in the Council chamber, becoming visibly frustrated and sulking as he sits down. Ironically, the last person ever added to the Council ultimately has the final say, tragically destroying almost the entire Order in a single day with his immense power.
