A recent episode of Have I Got News For You is no longer available on BBC iPlayer due to what the BBC describes as an “unintentional editorial oversight“.
On the most recent episode of the current affairs quiz show, hosted by Victoria Coren Mitchell, a claim made during a discussion about the government’s proposed digital ID cards has been found to be untrue.
During the discussion, Coren Mitchell questioned the teams about who would gain from the new ID cards. She explained: “I was considering the company Multiverse, as they’ve been selected to manage the digital ID cards program.”
She then inquired about the origins of Multiverse, asking the panel which company it belonged to. Following this, she stated that the company was established by Euan, the son of Tony Blair.

However, this claim has been proven false. The fact-checking organization FullFact stated: “This is inaccurate. Both the government and Multiverse – an ‘upskilling company’, not a software developer – confirm this is not the case.”
“The government has not announced any partner for the project.”
Multiverse isn’t a software developer, and we’ve found no proof they were involved in the planned digital ID system. Because of this, we’ve temporarily removed the episode from BBC iPlayer while we remove the section in question.
“We apologise for this unintentional editorial oversight.”
Coren Mitchell has responded to the mistake online, posting on X: “Just to clarify, if you come across a video of me stating the ID card contract was awarded to Tony Blair’s son, that’s incorrect. It hasn’t happened.”
I was asked to look into something last night, but it turned out the information was wrong. This is unfortunate for those who verify facts, but positive for opportunities for people to improve their social standing.
