The Xbox Store appears to have revealed a new Mortal Kombat addition for Xbox Game Pass. Currently, the future of the Mortal Kombat series is somewhat uncertain. Although Mortal Kombat 1, the newest game, has been successful, it hasn’t been as well-received or sold as well as the previous title, Mortal Kombat 11. At the same time, NetherRealm Studios seems to be developing Injustice 3 and might announce it shortly. If that happens, Mortal Kombat 1 will likely be the main Mortal Kombat game for the next several years, meaning NRS and WB Games will need to explore new strategies to attract more players.
So, it’s looking like Xbox Game Pass is about to get a whole lot more brutal! Apparently, NetherRealm Studios and WB Games are planning to add Mortal Kombat 1 to the service. It makes sense, since Microsoft basically funds these additions, and it’s a fantastic way to get new people hooked on the game, even if they’re only playing it for a little while. There hasn’t been a formal announcement just yet, but this is about as official as it gets without them actually saying it themselves.
Coming Soon
You can spot Mortal Kombat 1 featured in an ad for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on the Microsoft Store. Interestingly, all the other games shown in the ad are part of Xbox Game Pass, but Mortal Kombat 1 isn’t. This type of advertising leak has actually caused several unconfirmed Xbox Game Pass announcements in the past, which adds weight to this particular leak.
This discovery suggests that Mortal Kombat 1 will be added to Xbox Game Pass, and likely very soon. We already know some of the games coming to Xbox Game Pass in October, but the complete list hasn’t been revealed yet, meaning Mortal Kombat 1 could be included. Before then, you can read our official review of the game, which is currently available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
As of right now, neither NetherRealm Studios, WB Games, nor Xbox have publicly responded to this possible leak. We will update this article if they do.
With that being said, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment and share your thoughts, or continue the discussion on the ComicBook Forum.
