The gaming world is eagerly awaiting the launch of *Battlefield 6*, and even Patrick Söderlund – formerly a leader at *Battlefield* creator DICE and now CEO of Embark Studios – is paying attention. In a recent interview with Edge Magazine (reported by WCCFTech), Söderlund discussed the new *Battlefield* game, as well as his own studio’s projects, *THE FINALS* and *ARC Raiders*.
Söderlund shared that *Battlefield 6* “looks fantastic,” and he found it strange to see it in action considering he worked at DICE when the series first started. He’s glad the new game looks so good, and jokingly said he’ll play it until *ARC Raiders* releases later this month, then switch over to playing the game from his own studio.
Söderlund admitted it felt strange to see the latest *Battlefield* game, considering his team created the franchise. However, he was genuinely impressed with the work done on *Battlefield 6*, recognizing the immense effort put into it. He believes the game deserves success and expressed his excitement to play it – at least until his team’s own game, *ARC Raiders*, is released, after which he plans to switch his focus entirely to that title.
Regarding *THE FINALS*, Söderlund discussed Embark Studios’ plans for ongoing support. He mentioned that while the game’s player count decreased towards the end of 2024, it later began to grow again. The studio uses a 12-month period to evaluate a game’s performance and decide whether to continue supporting it.
We evaluate things yearly, taking a 12-month view,” Söderlund said. “We checked in on it after its first year in December 2024 and decided to give it another year to see if it improved. Luckily, we saw positive results in the spring. Because of that, I think we should continue supporting it for at least the next five years.
During the same interview, Söderlund also discussed the evolution of *ARC Raiders*. The team initially planned it as a purely cooperative, player-versus-environment game, but they ultimately changed direction to create a PvPvE extraction shooter. Söderlund explained that early versions of the game weren’t enjoyable, which led to several delays in its development.
“We were really passionate about the game we were creating,” Soderlund explained. “But after a lot of consideration, we realized it just wasn’t enjoyable to play.”
Aleksandr Grondal, the executive producer brought on during the final six months of development to improve *ARC Raiders*, has said the game has enjoyable parts, but lacks consistent quality overall.
ARC Raiders is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 30.
