October 9th Will Be a Great Day for Game of Thrones Fans

While 2024 was full of activity for the *Game of Thrones* universe – including the second season of *House of the Dragon*, some criticism from author George R.R. Martin, and news about both canceled and upcoming shows like the Jon Snow sequel and *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* – 2025 has been relatively calm. So far, this year hasn’t seen any major developments to match that level of activity.

Things are expected to pick up starting Thursday, October 9th, with the New York Comic-Con panel for *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms*. George R.R. Martin, along with stars Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell, and co-creator Ira Parker, will all be there. Fans are hoping to get updates on the series – including a possible release date – and, most importantly, a first look at the trailer. Filming finished in September 2024, and some footage was shown then, so there’s a lot they could share, making the Comic-Con panel the perfect time to finally reveal a new preview of the prequel.

This Will Begin A Big Few Months For Game of Thrones Fans

The recent promotion for *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* is a really big deal. This series, based on George R.R. Martin’s *Tales of Dunk and Egg*, offers a fresh take on the world, focusing on a smaller, more personal story without the large-scale battles and dragons we’ve seen before. Considering the show was pushed back from 2025 to 2026, it’s great to finally see some actual footage – beyond just a few still images – and I’m eager to see how the series is developing.

If the currently predicted release date of January 2026 remains accurate, HBO will likely continue to heavily promote the show. However, that won’t be the only *Game of Thrones* series they’re advertising this year. Season 3 of *House of the Dragon* is expected to debut around June 2025, and we should see a first look teaser trailer around late November or early December.

As a big fan, I’ve been following the production, and it sounds like filming is wrapping up this month, which fits with how things have gone in the past. Remember how the first teaser for Season 2 dropped in December 2023, and then the season actually came out in June 2024? If the pattern holds, I’m expecting we might get a first look at Season 3 around December again – maybe a trailer, some stills, or even official word on who’s joining the cast!

There’s a slight complication: HBO has never marketed two *Game of Thrones* shows simultaneously. In 2026, this will happen for the first time, with two active shows set in Westeros. HBO needs to promote *House of the Dragon* while also prioritizing the newer series, *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms*. It will be interesting to see if this affects the marketing for *House of the Dragon* or how HBO handles the situation. Overall, it’s a promising time for the franchise, and hopefully, it can regain momentum after the mixed reception to Season 2 of *House of the Dragon*.

Fans can look forward to *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* arriving in January 2026, and *House of the Dragon* will follow in June. All episodes of *Game of Thrones*, as well as the first two seasons of *House of the Dragon*, are currently available on HBO Max. A panel discussion about *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* will be held at New York Comic Con on Thursday, October 9th, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
