New details about Rolling Ray’s death have emerged.
The family of the social media personality, who gained popularity through appearances on *Catfish: Trolls* and *Divorce Court*, has confirmed to *The Washington Post* that he died of natural causes at the age of 28, one month after his passing.
I still can’t believe it. Ray passed away on September 3rd, just two days before his 29th birthday. I read it everywhere, even *People* magazine confirmed it. It was just… devastating. His family was heartbroken, and honestly, so was I. It felt like losing someone I knew personally, even though I didn’t. It’s just… awful.
Following Ray’s death, his cousin, Kishia, shared her grief on Facebook, writing, “I’m sitting here crying. I’m so heartbroken, I can’t even find the words. You were my favorite cousin, and I don’t understand why this happened.”
Ray, whose full name is Raymond Harper, was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy when he was just 15 months old. This condition caused him to begin using a wheelchair around age 10, as reported by *The Washington Post*. Despite these challenges, Ray lived a remarkably long life, considered a medical marvel.
He recalled being told as a young teenager that he wouldn’t live past age 14, but thankfully, the doctors were mistaken. “Science advanced, and it proved doctors don’t have all the answers,” he explained in an interview with *I Got Time Today* in November 2023. He added, “I’m grateful for that, and thankful for God’s goodness.”

As his online following increased, the creator appeared in several shows on the Zeus Network, including *Bobby I Love You*, *Purr*, and *The Conversation*. He’s also known for making the slang term “purr” – used to show excitement or approval – widely popular.
Ray achieved a lot, but he also faced several health problems, which he frequently shared online, including multiple bouts of pneumonia.
He shared on Instagram in August 2024 that while it was challenging being unable to speak, everything ultimately turned out well. He explained he persevered not only for himself, but also for the support of his fans, family, friends, and even those who doubted him.
