The new trailer for Jennifer Lawrence‘s upcoming thriller, *Die, My Love*, showcases a powerful performance as she portrays a woman grappling with mental health issues while navigating the complexities of love and desire. The film centers on Grace (Lawrence) and Jackson (Robert Pattinson), a married couple whose lives are disrupted by the arrival of their baby and a move to a quiet, small town.
In a secluded, overlooked countryside, a mother is fighting to stay mentally stable while experiencing psychosis.
The film honestly portrays the intense ups and downs of a relationship while also bravely tackling the difficult subject of postpartum depression and its wide-ranging impact. It captures the feeling of being paralyzed by conflicting desires, as beautifully expressed when the character Grace explains her writer’s block: “I’m stuck between wanting to do something and not wanting to do anything at all.”
Director Lynne Ramsay recently cautioned viewers against focusing solely on postpartum depression when interpreting her film. Speaking with critic Elvis Mitchell at Cannes, she emphasized that while the film addresses this important topic, it offers more than just that single message, according to Deadline.
This isn’t simply about one thing; it’s about the deterioration of a relationship, the loss of love and intimacy, particularly after having a baby, and also facing a period of creative stagnation.
Parenthood Changed How Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence Approach Their Careers
Both Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson have found that becoming parents has deeply influenced their work as actors. Lawrence shared in a May interview with *The Hollywood Reporter* that having children is a transformative experience, describing it as both “brutal and incredible.” She and her husband, Cooke Maroney, welcomed their son Cy in February 2022, and she gave birth to their second child three years later.
I discovered a whole new depth of feeling, which is particularly impactful given the emotional nature of my work. It’s like everything became incredibly raw and sensitive. Having children has undeniably transformed my life and my creativity for the better. I genuinely believe it’s a wonderful experience for anyone pursuing a career in acting.
Robert Pattinson, who has a 1-year-old daughter with Suki Waterhouse, said becoming a father gave him new energy for his work and made him feel fulfilled. He also complimented director Mia Ramsay, praising her skills and the positive atmosphere she created on set.
I’ve always admired this person’s work, and they foster such a comfortable environment on set that I don’t feel the need to constantly explain how challenging or straightforward things are. It’s a really unique feeling. When you have that much trust in your director, they guide you without you necessarily knowing the final destination, and you’re happy to follow their lead.
The movie *Die, My Love* is based on a 2012 novel of the same name by Ariana Harwicz. Over a decade later, Mubi announced it would be distributing the film.
Die, My Love hits theaters on Nov. 14.
