The Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 beta has been running for five days, and the developers at Treyarch and the Call of Duty team are thrilled with how players are enjoying it. Because of player requests for more testing time, the beta will now last one day longer.
The beta servers will now be offline on Thursday, October 9th, at 9 AM Pacific Time / 12 PM Eastern Time, instead of Wednesday, October 8th.
Throughout the beta, you’ll earn twice the experience for both weapons and operators, giving you plenty of time to unlock and test out different gear and customizations. You can also unlock special beta-exclusive playercards and other items while you play.
The Black Ops 7 beta is getting a lot of positive feedback from players, mainly because Treyarch is offering playlists with less focus on Skill-Based Match Making. While SBMM isn’t entirely removed from these open Moshpit playlists, it’s less important than connection quality – the game prioritizes finding matches with low ping and lag instead of matching players based on skill.
The Open Moshpit lobbies joined the lineup on Day 3, featuring the following mix of maps and modes:
Maps
- Toshin
- The Forge
- Cortex
- Exposure
- Imprint
- Blackheart
Modes
- Team Deathmatch
- Domination
- Hardpoint
- Kill Confirmed
- Overload
- Search and Destroy
- Training Course
Open Moshpit playlists are offered for both Core and Hardcore modes. The Hardcore playlist currently only supports Team Deathmatch and Domination game types.
For players who prefer a more traditional experience, a standard Moshpit mode is available, offering a way to play without the potential imbalance that can occur in lobbies without skill-based matchmaking.
Real-time changes
Throughout the Black Ops 7 beta, Treyarch has actively listened to player feedback and used it to quickly improve both the multiplayer and Zombies modes.
When Open Moshpits first launched, it only offered standard multiplayer matches. After listening to player requests, a Hardcore playlist was added the very next day.
Similar to the return of Hardcore mode, we’ve made several changes during the beta test. For instance, we’ve adjusted the automatic doors on some maps. Based on player feedback, we’ve reduced the number of closed doors in both The Forge and Cortex to make matches flow more smoothly.
Several weapons have been rebalanced. The Draven 45 SMG and M8A1 are now weaker, while the VS Recon Sniper Rifle is stronger. The M10 Breacher Shotgun and Ryden 45K SMG have also been modified.
We’re working on a few key things: delivering the features players are asking for, streamlining our playlists to concentrate the player base and gather better data, and ensuring thorough testing, data analysis, and feedback collection for matchmaking.
Matt Scronce, the design director for Black Ops 7 at Treyarch, has also been using social media to discuss upcoming changes based on player feedback.
When you’re eliminated by a Nemesis in Black Ops 7, the sound effect will be quieter. Also, Scronce confirmed that the beta version doesn’t include all of the scorestreaks that will be in the full game, such as Care Packages.
Scronce tweeted to a player that the team is actively analyzing data and making improvements.
Playing on PC? You have some extra steps.
I noticed that if you’re trying to get into the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 beta on a PC, there seem to be a few extra things you need to do before you can actually start playing.
Similar to Battlefield 6, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will use TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot to strengthen its anti-cheat system, RICOCHET. Before playing, ensure your computer meets these requirements by having TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot enabled.
The new anti-cheat system from Team RICOCHET appears to be working well. During the first two days of the beta test, they successfully stopped 97% of identified cheaters within half an hour of them logging in. Very few cheaters – only 1% – actually made it into matches, and even those players were quickly removed.
Because the beta test is running for one more day, the RICOCHET team will have more time to improve the anti-cheat system before Black Ops 7 is released.
