Atomfall: All Endings Explained

Atomfall is a compelling game because you, the player, drive the story. Just like in any great narrative, the decisions you make will shape what happens next.

The future of the Windscale Plant rests solely on your decisions – whether you support the strict Protocol regime or secretly gather an Oberon sample for your own research.

The game has six different endings, and getting the one you want requires careful planning and choices.

Okay, so how the game ends really hinges on what you do at the Oberon Dig Site – it’s this creepy place inside the Windscale Plant, and your choices there matter a *lot*.

The game doesn’t have clear ‘good’ or ‘bad’ endings. Instead, each ending is morally complex, and the outcome you get depends on your own beliefs and how you see things.

Some ways to finish a game are easier than others. How much effort you put in depends on whether you’re aiming for a specific outcome or just trying to beat it quickly.

Mother Jago Ending

One of the simplest endings to unlock is the one tied to Mother Jago, the druid. You’ll encounter her regardless, as she sells the Strange Tonic, a crucial item for resisting Infection damage.

To learn the recipe, you need to find Mother Jago’s book in the Castle Ruins. You can get it either by sneaking around or fighting – it doesn’t change anything. After that, Mother Jago will ask you to do another task, but you only need to do it if you’re interested in her unique ending, where you become connected to the land.

If you agree to help, she’ll need you to get a special Growth Stimulant from the medical section of The Interchange. She wants to use it to help the Oberon sample grow.

After gaining access to Oberon by changing the direction of the energy flow in The Interchange, you can place the Growth Stimulant into the fire safety system and activate the sprinklers to water the special crystal.

After that, you’ll meet up with Mother Jago at the Castle Ruins in Casterfell Woods to perform the final ritual: jumping into the big, blue fungal pit – which will likely result in your death.

The story concludes with the Oberon sample escaping the Quarantine Zone, but it’s left uncertain whether this will ultimately be good or bad for the rest of the world.

We don’t know much about the player’s background, but it’s safe to say falling into the pit doesn’t give you any special abilities.

Dr. Garrow Ending

Doctor Garrow is a fascinating figure in the story of Atomfall. She was a key scientist on the Oberon project, and it’s revealed she played a major role in causing the environmental catastrophe and the deaths of several coworkers.

If you choose to help her, you’ll experience one of the game’s more open-ended conclusions, and you’ll be able to leave the Quarantine Zone relatively peacefully – more so than with other choices.

To unlock Dr. Garrow’s unique ending, you must first rescue her from the Procol Camp prison in Skethermoore. After you find her at The Interchange, she’ll ask you to get her research notes back from the Robotics department.

Once you have the necessary notes and have activated the Casterfell Dam Data Storage center, you can redirect the currents in The Interchange.

To use the drill at the Oberon Dig Site, you’ll need two Atomic Batteries. Once powered, you can start the sample extraction from the control room and then collect the sample from the depository nearby.

Now that you have the Oberon Sample, return to Dr. Garrow in the Robotics area and give it to her to finish her storyline. It’s crucial you do this *before* assisting Dr. Holder, as he will immediately kill Garrow if they meet in The Interchange.

As a fan, I always loved this ending! It feels like my character and Garrow team up to keep studying things after everything goes down. It’s not about getting a huge reward for me, but it’s great because the Quarantine Zone stays mostly as it was, and it doesn’t cause a lot of problems for the people and groups who live there. It’s the ending where everyone gets the least disruption, which I really appreciate.

Dr. Holder Ending

In Atomfall, Dr. Holder is likely the closest thing to a hero. But even with him leading the way, this particular outcome isn’t necessarily a happy one.

Having been among the first scientists on the Oberon project, he witnessed the disaster firsthand. This led him to believe that Oberon needed to be completely destroyed.

Your first step is to locate Dr. Holder. He’s working in a small lab hidden in the crypt under the church in Wyndham Village.

Okay, so to move forward, I need to grab both the Church Cellar Key and Sample One from the Medical facility. I can do this however I want – I can go in quiet, or get Dr. Garrow to help me. But heads up: if I *do* work with Garrow, Holder will shoot her when we meet up in The Interchange. Apparently, he hasn’t forgotten her leaving his team to die, and he’s looking for revenge.

After obtaining Sample One, talk to Holder. He’ll contaminate it for you so you can use it at the Oberon Dig Site. Once there, place the poisoned sample into the sprinkler system and turn it on to poison Oberon.

Although the player manages to escape with Dr. Holder after Oberon’s death, it becomes clear they’ve been infected. This forces them both to go into hiding, and it’s uncertain how long they’ll need to stay hidden.

Protocol Ending (Captain Sims)

Okay, so if we want to do what the authorities are asking – which is basically help them destroy the Oberon site and everything around it, including the town of Wyndham and everyone who lives there – then we need to listen to Captain Sims. It’s tough to think about, but that’s what they’re saying we have to do to be compliant.

You’ll find Captain Sims at the Town Hall in Wyndham Village. He’ll ask you to let him know if you notice anything strange. A good way to start is by telling him about the murder at the church. You have some freedom in how you handle this quest, but ultimately you need to support Captain Sims.

Next, you’ll need to find Sims’ Protocol Radio in Casterfell Woods. You can get it by going into the Speaking Cave and looking behind the main sacrificial statue.

Okay, so I got the radio working for Sims, and now he’s telling me to go to the Windscale Plant. My mission is to set off some explosives around the Oberon Dig Site. Once that’s done and I’m clear of the Plant, I need to head back to the Village Hall – that’s where Sims said he’d leave instructions on how to get out of here.

Once you’ve finished those objectives, you can go to Skethermoore camp to be evacuated. The game’s ending implies the entire Quarantine Zone will be destroyed by a nuclear blast as part of the Atomfall project.

Joyce Tanner Ending

Joyce Tanner is an early character who offers a way to escape the game’s central conflict, but her motives remain unclear. She proposes using Oberon as a global deterrent – spreading it to multiple countries so that no one would dare attack, fearing total destruction for everyone involved.

If you like the sound of that, just follow the instructions Joyce gives you after you meet her in The Interchange. She’ll first ask you to get three Radio Towers working: one in Skethermoore, another in Casterfell Woods, and a third in Slatten Dale.

Okay, so next up, I need to get over to the Oberon Dig Site. There are a bunch of Atomic Batteries there I need to use to get the Extraction Drill working. Once I’ve managed to pull out the Oberon sample, I get to decide if I want to blow the whole site up with explosives or just poison it. Pretty cool, huh?

After you give Tanner the sample, she’ll immediately turn on you, revealing herself as a communist spy working for another country. It’s likely you’ve been used as a pawn – a ‘useful idiot’ – manipulated by Tanner to achieve someone else’s objectives. What happens to you after that remains unknown, but it won’t be good.

This ending is likely the hardest to get, and it doesn’t offer much closure, as what happens to the Quarantine Zone remains a mystery.

Voice On The Phone Ending

The easiest way to finish the game is to just listen to the Voice on the Phone and do everything it tells you. From the start, the Voice wants Oberon destroyed, and it will specifically warn you away from choices that could lead to other endings or outcomes with different characters.

Now that you’ve unlocked the entire Interchange, including the Signal Redirector and Data Store, you can head directly to the Windscale Plant and explore the Oberon Dig Site inside.

Once you reach the Oberon site, you can set off four explosives planted around its edges, giving you time to escape afterward. Be prepared for a lot of enemies – including members of the Druids and Protocol – on your return journey through the Windscale Plant and The Interchange.

Now that you’ve escaped the ruined facility, return to Bunker L8 – where the game started – to finish the story.
