Tron: Ares Rotten Tomatoes Score Is Improvement Over Franchise’s Last Film

While the *Tron* movies haven’t always been critically acclaimed, they’ve developed a dedicated fanbase thanks to their unique look and interesting story. This continued popularity is the reason *Tron: Ares* is finally being released, after years of being stuck in development. Over ten years after *Tron: Legacy* came out, *Ares* is generating a lot of excitement and is hoped to help Disney improve its box office performance after a mixed year. Positive reviews will be key to the movie’s success, and the first ones are now starting to appear.

Currently, critics on Rotten Tomatoes give *Tron: Ares* a score of 58%, based on 53 reviews. While it’s not considered “Certified Fresh,” this is actually a better score than the previous *Tron* movie, *Tron: Legacy*, which received 51%. The original *Tron* still holds the highest score in the series at 60%.

What Are Critics Saying About Tron: Ares?

While there isn’t a unified opinion from critics yet, early reviews of *Tron: Ares* suggest both strengths and weaknesses. The film’s impressive visuals are consistently praised, which is expected given the franchise’s history of spectacle. It’s being shown in premium formats like IMAX and seems to make excellent use of the technology with its exciting action sequences. The soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails is also getting positive attention, following the highly acclaimed score from Daft Punk in *Tron: Legacy*.

The main complaint about *Tron: Ares* is that its story feels a bit weak, lacking in well-developed characters and meaningful themes. This is a common issue with the *Tron* films – *Tron: Legacy* was criticized for prioritizing flashy visuals over a strong plot. It’s a shame *Tron: Ares* didn’t improve on this, especially since today’s world, with its focus on AI and rapidly changing technology, felt like the perfect time for a *Tron* movie that could really explore our connection with technology.

It will be interesting to see how word of mouth affects the box office numbers for *Tron: Ares*. Early predictions in September estimated around $44 million for its opening weekend, similar to the first *Tron: Legacy*. While several films have done better than expected this year, those usually had very positive reviews. *Tron: Ares* isn’t receiving terrible reviews, but it’s not getting widespread praise either. This means people who are unsure about seeing it in theaters might choose to wait and watch it on Disney+ instead. Stronger reviews could have given the film a better chance to exceed expectations.

The score for *Tron: Ares* on Rotten Tomatoes is still changing as more reviews are published. Currently, there are far fewer reviews for *Ares* than for *Tron: Legacy*, which has 249. While it doesn’t look like *Ares* will become a critically acclaimed hit, it’s still possible it could score higher than the first *Tron* movie and become the best-rated film in the series. Even though reviews haven’t been overwhelmingly positive, *Ares* might eventually gain a dedicated following and become a beloved cult classic, just like *Tron: Legacy*.
