STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expedition’s Chaotic Co-Op Mission-Based Gameplay Showcased

System Era Softworks and Devolver Digital have shared new information about the next installment in the *Astroneer* series, called *STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions*. They revealed these details in a nearly 17-minute-long showcase, which you can watch below.

The latest showcase for *STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions* understandably focused on the game’s multiplayer features, as you’d expect from a game built around playing with others. The showcase also included creative director Adam Bromell sharing details about the upcoming game, and a sneak peek at the new content coming to *Astroneer* in the *Megatech* DLC.

In a recent video, Bromell explained that this new game isn’t simply a follow-up to *Astroneer*. It’s a completely separate title, *STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions*, and represents the type of online sandbox experience System Era aims to become famous for – a new genre altogether. He emphasized that it’s not *Astroneer 2*, but a distinct game with its own identity.

STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions is a complete expedition-style game where players need to be resourceful and work together. You play as a new recruit on the ESS Starseeker, a unique space station, and complete timed missions on various alien planets under the direction of the Fronteer Force.

The recent showcase of *STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions* highlighted the three core phases of gameplay: preparing for a mission, landing on a dangerous planet, and then surviving and completing it. The showcase demonstrated these phases with a mission example on the planet Tephra.

Tephra is a beautiful and intriguing planet with large oceans, deep caves for exploration, and dense jungles to traverse. The developers at System Era Softworks emphasize that each planet in *STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions* is uniquely designed by hand. This means players can return to interesting locations they’ve noticed before and fully investigate them when they have time.

The team in the video landed on Tephra to fix important equipment for the scientists. They had to get creative with the repairs, though, because the local creatures had covered everything in a sticky substance.

The original *Astroneer* is getting a *Megatech* DLC in November 2025, offering players who enjoy building and automation even more to do. It will let you build much larger structures and create more complex automated systems using upgraded versions of existing tools, like rail lines. A free update launching alongside the DLC will add new items and a large-scale automation project, giving players a taste of what *Megatech* offers.

The game *STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions* is scheduled to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch in 2026.
