Dream of running your own dinosaur theme park? You’ve likely already played *Jurassic World Evolution* or its sequel. The first game came out in 2018, and with a new one on the way, the series has consistently delivered new content. But *Jurassic World Evolution 3* isn’t just an expansion pack – it introduces significant new features and gameplay changes that make it a truly worthwhile addition to the series. Here are 15 things you should know before purchasing *Jurassic World Evolution 3*.
Over 80 Dinosaur Species
Although *Jurassic World Evolution 3* features a huge number of prehistoric animals, it still doesn’t include every species from the downloadable content of *Jurassic World Evolution 2*. However, simply having a large roster isn’t the most important thing. This new game is making its dinosaurs more realistic with several new features. For the first time, dinosaurs will show visible differences between males and females – for example, male pterosaurs will have bigger, more colorful crests than females. This added detail extends to the game’s collection of over 80 different dinosaur species.
Juvenile Dinosaur Variants
As a long-time fan, I’m really excited about this new update! For the first time ever, we’re seeing baby versions of all the prehistoric creatures in the game, and they aren’t just smaller copies of the adults. The developers did a ton of research using real fossil records to figure out what the young ones would have actually looked like and *how* they would have moved. It’s incredibly detailed – things like eye size and how much fluff they had could be different! They even showed off the Psittacosaurus babies, and it’s amazing – they walk on all fours, while the adults walk upright on two legs. It adds so much more realism to the game!
Improved Dinosaur AI
Adding young dinosaurs makes the game much more realistic and interesting. These juveniles have their own behaviors – they usually stay near their parents and try to avoid danger. Parents, naturally, focus on protecting their young from predators. And yes, juveniles can be attacked and even eaten by adult dinosaurs, or they might even attack guests! With unique looks, movements, sounds, and artificial intelligence, these young dinosaurs add a lot more life and excitement to every species in the game.
Generations of Dinosaurs
Okay, so things just got a lot more involved! Now I can actually decide where my dinos build their nests, which is awesome. But it’s not just slapping down a nest – I need to make sure the babies have a safe space to grow, and that means collecting new resources. Plus, I have to learn how each dino species *acts* when they’re raising their young. Some are super private and want to be left alone, while others don’t mind showing off! I’ll really need to pay attention to each species’ family life to make sure they breed successfully.
Crossbreeding
Enjoying your dinosaur creations? Now you can make more! As long as your dinosaur is able to reproduce, you can clone it. For players who want the best possible stats or unique combinations, you can also breed dinosaurs together, mixing their traits and looks.
Terraforming
To create the best and safest nesting areas for baby dinosaurs, you can reshape the existing landscape. For example, creating a small valley offers privacy for breeding dinosaurs, and planting trees or building cliffs works well for pterodactyl nests. While pre-made fences are available, you also have the option to naturally build enclosures by changing the terrain to suit your dinosaurs’ needs.
Modular Construction
Players can now fully design and build structures from the ground up. Similar to our other games like *Planet Coaster* and *Planet Zoo*, we’ve included a wide range of building materials that you can customize – change their color, size, and combine them in endless ways. A simple, grid-based system makes it easy to place these pieces precisely on the landscape. While the game still features pre-made buildings, this new level of customization is a major addition to the series that fans have been requesting.
Park Attractions
I’m so excited about all the new stuff coming to *JWE3*! They’re adding a Balloon Tour, which sounds amazing, and something called Dinosaur Encounter – a little scary, but cool! But the best part for me is the Cretaceous Cruise. It’s a river attraction where you can really get creative with how you build it, carving out the landscape for a guided boat tour. And you can experience it in first-person, which is super immersive, but you can *also* control the kayak yourself, like you’re actually a guest on the ride! It’s like having two experiences in one.
Sandbox Mode
If you’re looking for endless fun and creative freedom without any restrictions, be sure to try the sandbox mode again. It’s been updated with even more ways to customize your world, including new tools for building and shaping the terrain. You can also control the age of dinosaurs, keeping baby dinos young as long as you like! The sandbox offers total freedom, and you’ll have access to every dinosaur species right from the start – no unlocking needed.
Frontier Workshop
Players can share their park designs with the community using the Frontier Workshop, and also browse and add designs created by others into their own parks. The Workshop works across all platforms, so players can share creations no matter what system they’re using.
Campaign
Honestly, not being able to mess around in a sandbox mode doesn’t bother me too much, because the campaign looks like the real star of this game. From what I’ve seen, it actually takes place *after* the events of Jurassic World Evolution 2, and it’s setting things up to line up with the Jurassic World Dominion movie. Basically, we’re in charge of introducing dinosaurs to the world, building parks in ten different locations all over the globe. And thankfully, Cabot Finch is back, along with some other characters I remember from the previous game, which is awesome!
Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcom
Jeff Goldblum returns as the voice of Dr. Ian Malcolm, offering his signature insightful commentary throughout the game’s story. For those familiar with the original movies, he continues to contribute to the Jurassic World experience. While Finch handles the management side of things, Malcolm provides a more questioning and advisory perspective.
3 Factions to Appease or Oppose
The campaign features some political maneuvering and competition between different groups. Three factions – focused on conservation, entertainment, and security – will try to win your favor by giving you tasks and rewards. Each faction has different ideas about how to manage your dinosaurs, and some may even want to eliminate certain species. This adds interesting moral choices to the campaign and makes it more engaging.
New Japan and Hawaii Locations
This new game expands beyond the United States, letting players build parks in Japan, Papua New Guinea, and Hawaii. Each location offers a distinct experience with its own specific goals, tasks, environments, characters, and challenges.
Release Date, Price, and Platforms
Jurassic World Evolution 3 comes out worldwide on October 21st. This is the first game in the series designed only for current-generation consoles and PC – it won’t be available on older PlayStation and Xbox systems. The standard version costs $59.99, while the Deluxe Edition, which includes extra content like the Badlands Set and Upgrade Pack, is priced at $74.99.
