The Nintendo Switch 2 has been a hit with both critics and customers, but launching a console is just the beginning. Today’s consoles require ongoing updates and improvements. Nintendo has already released several updates for the Switch 2 to address problems reported by early users. The latest update, released in late September, focused on improving the system’s overall stability. It turns out this update also enhanced backwards compatibility, adding support for five more older games on the new console.
NintendoEverything reported that a recent Switch firmware update allows five games originally made for the Switch 1 to now work perfectly on the new Switch 2. This is significant for Nintendo with every update, but especially so this time because it includes a very popular, ongoing online game. With this update, players can now enjoy *Warframe* – a huge game with a large player base – on the Switch 2, letting them play their favorite game on the go with the console’s improved power. Here’s a list of all the games that are now compatible:
- Deemo Reborn
- Library of Ruina
- Powerful Pro Baseball 2024-2025
- Ultra Age
- Warframe
As a Nintendo fan, I’m really happy to see them keep working on making the Switch 2 play older games! The system was already awesome when it came out, but having titles like *Warframe* work well is a huge win for those of us who want even more to play. Fingers crossed they keep releasing updates and improvements over the next few months!
Nintendo is aware of and addressing some compatibility issues with older games on the upcoming Switch 2. They’ve released a report detailing the status of these games, and while inclusion on the list doesn’t guarantee a game won’t work, it indicates potential problems. Here’s what Nintendo has shared about the games they’re currently investigating:
- Jelly Troops – This game is fully unsupported due to problems with the game’s progression.
- Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning – The action RPG is still dealing with a few graphical issues, but progression has been fixed, making it playable. Just don’t expect it to be completely smooth.
- Mugen Souls – Some items may not correctly appear.
- Subway Simulator 2025: City Train – In certain parts of the game, animations don’t play.
- Transistor – If you insert or remove the Switch 2 from its dock during gameplay, the game may stop functioning.
The issues with those games should be resolved fairly quickly, although Nintendo hasn’t given a specific date. We’ve already seen a significant update for *Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning*, which shows Nintendo is working efficiently to ensure older games play well on the Switch 2. Hopefully, popular titles like *Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition* will soon be fully compatible, joining *Warframe*, and giving players even more options while they wait for *Metroid Prime 4: Beyond* to release on December 4th, 2025.
