Princess of Norway Märtha Louise Addresses “Lavender Marriage” Claims

One royal couple is rebelling against their doubters.

Norway’s Princess Märtha Louise and her husband, Durek Verrett, recently responded to rumors that their marriage is a ‘lavender marriage‘ – a term for a straight-appearing marriage used to hide someone’s LGBTQ+ identity. The couple’s August 2024 wedding was the subject of a Netflix documentary called *Rebel Royals: An Unlikely Love Story*.

A recent Instagram video from October 6th showed Märtha Louise and Durek looking puzzled when asked, “What’s a Lavender Marriage?” The video then cut to the pair wearing lavender outfits, accompanied by screenshots of comments from social media.

One person online commented that the Norwegian reality TV star was in a ‘lavender marriage,’ meaning a marriage of convenience, and another user echoed that sentiment, suggesting she might not even realize it.

Märtha Louise and Durek shook their heads, then Durek lifted his wife in a dance, and they shared a loving look.

“Ordinary isn’t our thing,” the final onscreen text read. “We just love.”

To emphasize their message, Durek—a self-described shaman—wrote with the photo, “You thought this was lavender? Surprise—it’s all about love and family history.”

Durek, who is bisexual, was married to Zaneta Marzalkova from 2005 to 2009. He was also engaged to Hank Greenberg for eight years, from 2007 to 2015.

He mentioned in the document that Märtha Louise first introduced him to her daughters – Maud, 22, Leah, 20, and Emma, 17 – as her gay partner. These daughters are from her marriage to the late Ari Behn.

He was relieved she immediately told them he was her close, gay friend. He explained that they both had strong personalities, and he worried they would have given him a hard time otherwise. Becoming known as the ‘cool gay best friend’ helped him fit in, and it made it easier for them to accept that he and she eventually fell in love.

Even though some people on social media question whether their relationship is real, Märtha Louise has openly shared her feelings for Durek. The couple first connected in 2018.

She told Today.com in a recent interview that being married is wonderful, particularly when you’re with the person you love. She added that it’s incredible to be loved so deeply by her husband.

I was so charmed to learn that, just a day before turning 78, the royal was honored with the title of Vice Admiral by the Royal Navy! It’s a lovely way to recognize her long-standing connection and support of the armed forces, and a beautiful pre-birthday gift, don’t you think?

Camilla is the first woman to receive this honorary title. It’s awarded only by the monarch – in this case, her husband, King Charles III – based on a recommendation from the First Sea Lord, currently Sir Gwyn Jenkins.

Just hours before she was scheduled to attend, Princess Catherine cancelled her appearance at Royal Ascot, the annual horse race. Kensington Palace confirmed the news to NBC News.

The palace said Kate was sad she couldn’t attend the event, but she’s still working out how to manage her public appearances as she recovers from cancer.

As someone who’s always believed in building a life where family thrives, I’ve made the difficult decision not to return to the U.K. with my wife and kids right now. It honestly breaks my heart that my children won’t have the chance to really experience and get to know the country where I grew up – it’s something I’d always dreamed of sharing with them.

Harry explained that his father has significant influence and could potentially solve the situation. He suggested this wouldn’t require direct involvement, but rather allowing professionals to handle things without interference.

After years of fighting, he’s now seeking peace and a chance to make amends. He explained, “Life is short, and my father doesn’t have much time left.”
