MMORPGs, or massively multiplayer online role-playing games, are known for staying popular for a long time because players form strong communities within them. Games like *World of Warcraft*, *The Lord of the Rings Online*, and *Elder Scrolls Online* are proof of this. But if you’ve ever wanted to attend magic school in a virtual world, *Wizard101* is the ultimate choice. And now, after being available on PC for years, this popular game is finally playable on consoles.
Wizard101 is a free-to-play game where you become a student at a school for witches and wizards. You can learn different spells, explore many worlds, and even collect cards to build powerful decks. Originally released 17 years ago, the game has a loyal following who have been eagerly waiting for it to come to consoles. On October 9th, that wish finally came true with the game’s launch on Xbox and PlayStation, and it’s available to play for free!
Wizard 101 Finally Hits Consoles, And Yes, Nintendo Switch Is Coming Soon

The popular online game *Wizard101* is now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, starting October 9th! A version for the Nintendo Switch is also being developed, though a release date hasn’t been announced yet. Players can now enjoy this magical school adventure on their favorite console. The game is free to play in its first world, but you’ll need to make purchases within the game to access additional areas and items.
As a huge fan of Wizard101, I’m so excited it’s coming to consoles! But there are a couple of things to know. Unfortunately, if you play on PC, you won’t be able to play *with* your friends on Xbox or PlayStation. Also, your existing Wizard101 account from the website won’t work on consoles – you’ll have to make a brand new account specifically for the console version when you first log in on Xbox or PlayStation.

The console version of *Wizard 101* currently operates as a completely separate game from the PC version. This means you can’t transfer your existing PC character to the console. While this is frustrating for long-time players, it gives everyone a fresh start when playing on consoles. When the game launches on Nintendo Switch, it will also have this limitation, but players on Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch will be able to play together.
Wizard101 is well-regarded on Steam and has a lively community on Reddit. The developers continue to add new content, making it a good option for fans of Hogwarts Legacy who are looking for another magical game. While it’s an older game, the graphics are still decent.
Now that *Wizard101* is available on Xbox and PlayStation, are you planning to play it? Share your thoughts in the comments below and join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum!
