Every Member of Star Wars’ Disaster Lineage, Ranked

At the heart of the Star Wars saga is the dynamic between mentors and their students. Sheev Palpatine understands he needs help to achieve his goals, and in *The Phantom Menace*, he enlists Darth Maul to carry out his dangerous tasks. Maul proves to be a formidable opponent for the Jedi, challenging Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. This conflict, whether intentional on Palpatine’s part or not, sets in motion events with massive implications for the entire galaxy. The story is fundamentally built around a lineage of Force users, tracing back to the ancient Master Yoda.

Yoda likely saw great promise in Count Dooku when he began training him. Dooku then shared his knowledge with Qui-Gon Jinn, who in turn taught Obi-Wan Kenobi. This mentorship continued down the line, eventually reaching Rey Skywalker, who hasn’t yet trained anyone herself in the official Star Wars story. However, because not everyone in this lineage has been entirely virtuous, it’s difficult to evaluate and rank them all.

10) Sabine Wren

It feels wrong to rank Sabine Wren, who’s consistently been a hero in the Star Wars universe, below some of the villains. She hasn’t fully accepted her potential with the Force, despite Ahsoka Tano’s guidance. While she’s likely to climb the ranks after Season 2 of *Star Wars: Ahsoka*, right now she remains near the bottom.

9) Count Dooku

Darth Sidious manipulated Count Dooku, bringing him into his plans only to have Anakin Skywalker ultimately kill him. Though Dooku’s actions seem misguided, he initially had good intentions. He believed the Jedi Order was heading down a wrong path and couldn’t remain involved.

8) Qui-Gon Jinn

It’s fascinating to consider what might have happened in Star Wars if Qui-Gon Jinn had survived and trained Anakin Skywalker. Qui-Gon, with his unique perspective, understood Anakin’s potential and wanted to guide him properly, unlike the Jedi Council. Sadly, his death during the duel with Darth Maul set off a series of events that eventually led to the Empire’s power.

7) Kylo Ren

Despite becoming part of the First Order and committing terrible acts, Kylo Ren remains conflicted and unable to fully commit to the dark side. He’s haunted by his past as Ben Solo, and ultimately returns to help Rey save the galaxy, sacrificing himself to ensure her survival.

6) Rey Skywalker

Rey, the newest in a long line of powerful individuals, quickly proves her strength. Even without traditional Jedi training, she defeats a wounded Kylo Ren and rescues her friends. She ultimately defeats Palpatine in *Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker*. The main question surrounding Rey is what comes next. As the leader of the rebuilt Jedi Order, she has the potential to become one of the most important figures in the Star Wars saga.

5) Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi isn’t perfect and makes several errors in judgment. His distant approach to Anakin leads the young Jedi to seek guidance from others. Despite these missteps, Obi-Wan ultimately redeems himself by defeating Darth Vader twice and providing crucial Force training to Luke Skywalker before his passing.

4) Yoda

Similar to Obi-Wan, Yoda shares some responsibility for the Empire’s rise. He lets the Dark Side influence his decisions and doesn’t recognize the growing threat until it’s too late. Despite this, Yoda remains dedicated and prepares Luke to confront Darth Vader and the Emperor. His long life also meant he guided the Jedi Order during its most successful period.

3) Ahsoka Tano

Even without a teacher of his own, Anakin successfully trains Ahsoka. She becomes a key player in the Republic’s fight during the Clone Wars and later helps lay the groundwork for the Rebellion against the Empire. Ultimately, Ahsoka consistently fights for the right cause, and that’s a significant achievement.

2) Anakin Skywalker

The tragedy in Anakin Skywalker’s story is central to understanding his legacy. He ultimately betrays and destroys the Jedi Order, but he also fulfills the prophecy of the Chosen One by defeating the Sith. Even though he makes terrible choices, Anakin still achieves a significant place in history.

1) Luke Skywalker

Anakin never would have turned against his master without his son, Luke, intervening. Luke embodies the perfect Jedi, restoring balance to the Force and helping to heal a shattered galaxy. While his relationship with Ben has its difficulties, it doesn’t overshadow all the positive impact he’s had.
