Now that *Peacemaker* season 2 has finished, there are several DC Universe and DC Elseworlds movies on the way. After some unsuccessful DC films in theaters, James Gunn and Peter Safran were brought in to lead DC Studios and refresh the DC movie universe. Gunn revealed the first five movies planned for the DCU’s “Gods and Monsters” era in January 2023, and one of them, *Superman*, has already proven to be a hit.
The movie *Superman* premiered on July 11, 2025, launching the revamped DC Universe (DCU) on the big screen. While many more films are planned, only a few have confirmed release dates, and DC Studios hasn’t officially announced them all. However, these upcoming projects hint at a promising and diverse future for DC films – and a more successful one than the previous DC Extended Universe. 2026 is expected to be the start of a fantastic run for DC Studios in theaters.
12) Supergirl
Milly Alcock, who first appeared as Supergirl in the movie *Superman*, will reprise her role in a solo *Supergirl* film coming out on June 26, 2026. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the movie will explore Supergirl’s origins on Krypton and her path to Earth, while also pitting her against Jason Momoa’s character, Lobo. While aiming for the same enjoyable feel as *Superman*, which featured David Corenswet as Supergirl’s cousin, *Supergirl* will be a more realistic, intense, and large-scale science fiction story within the DC Universe.
11) Clayface
Currently being filmed and set for release on September 11, 2026, *Clayface* stars Tom Rhys Harries as an actor who tragically transforms into a terrifying, shapeshifting creature made of clay. Directed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, *Clayface* is expected to be a frightening and visually impressive addition to the DC Universe. While the character has appeared in animated form in *Creature Commandos*, it’s unknown if the live-action version will follow the same story.
10) Man of Tomorrow
While not a traditional sequel to *Superman*, *Man of Tomorrow* promises a similar experience, bringing back David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor after their first appearances in 2025. Set to premiere on July 9, 2027, this is the next DC Universe project James Gunn is overseeing. It will feature Superman and Lex Luthor teaming up to face a major new enemy, with Lex Luthor wearing his iconic battlesuit from the DC Comics. The events of *Peacemaker* season 2 will lead directly into the story of *Man of Tomorrow*, though the identity of this ‘bigger threat’ remains a mystery.
9) The Authority
Even though we haven’t heard much lately, DC Studios is still developing *The Authority*. Casting María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, a.k.a. The Engineer, in the upcoming *Superman* movie could pave the way for the rest of the team to appear. *The Authority* is a comic book group known for being willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their goals, which often puts them at odds with heroes like Superman. Introducing them into the DC Universe could significantly shake things up. James Gunn mentioned in September 2025 that the project might become a TV series instead of a movie, but plans haven’t been finalized.
8) The Brave and the Bold
Okay, so here’s the deal with Batman. Robert Pattinson is still *my* Batman in that separate universe Matt Reeves is building, which is great. But James Gunn’s new DCU is going to introduce a *different* Batman! They’re planning a movie called *The Brave and the Bold*, potentially directed by Andy Muschietti (who did *The Flash*), and it’s going to be a really interesting take – it’s all about Batman and his son, Damian Wayne, as Robin. We’ve never seen that dynamic on the big screen before! It sounds like they’re really leaning into the Bat-Family, potentially giving characters like Talia al Ghul much bigger roles in live-action. Honestly, I’m excited, but it’s a bit of a shake-up. No word yet on when it’ll actually hit theaters, though.
7) Swamp Thing
James Mangold’s upcoming Swamp Thing movie aims to be a fresh, dark take on the DC character, drawing heavily from the classic 1984 comic book series The Saga of the Swamp Thing by Alan Moore. It’s a personal project for Mangold and is generating a lot of excitement as a new addition to the DCU. While it will delve into the origins of Swamp Thing, this version promises to be different from past adaptations, including the 1982 film and the TV series from 1990 and 2019.
6) Wonder Woman Movie
DC Studios is working on a new Wonder Woman movie, with a script being written by Ana Nogueira, who also worked on *Supergirl* and a *Teen Titans* film. This Wonder Woman story will be different from the *Paradise Lost* series also in development. While neither project has a confirmed release date, Wonder Woman and her home, Themyscira, are planned to be featured soon, having already been hinted at and with the character Circe appearing in *Creature Commandos*.
5) Teen Titans
Ana Nogueira, known for her work in *Hamilton*, is quickly becoming a key creative force at DC Studios. She’s currently writing the scripts for several projects, including *Supergirl*, a new Wonder Woman film, and a movie based on the Teen Titans – the popular superhero team originally led by Robin (Dick Grayson). The Wonder Woman movie is scheduled to come out before the Teen Titans film, so fans will have to wait a while to see this young team of heroes on the big screen in the DC Universe.
4) Sgt. Rock
I remember back in November 2024, the news broke that Luca Guadagnino was potentially directing a DCU movie starring Daniel Craig as Sgt. Rock – it was really exciting! The script was even being written by Justin Kuritzkes, who worked with them on *Queer*. It seemed like Guadagnino’s next film, planned before his *American Psycho* remake. But, unfortunately, James Gunn recently said both Guadagnino and Craig have moved on, so the project is on hold for now. Still, it’s good to hear that a *Sgt. Rock* movie is still in the cards for the DCU eventually – the story, about Sgt. Rock teaming up with a French resistance fighter to find the Spear of Destiny, sounded awesome.
3) The Batman: Part II
As a huge fan of *The Batman* from 2022, I’m really excited to hear that the sequel is definitely happening at DC! It was fantastic seeing Robert Pattinson take on the role of Batman, and the dynamic with Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman and Paul Dano as the Riddler was brilliant. What I love is that Matt Reeves is building out this whole corner of the DC universe – we already got *The Penguin* series on HBO Max, and now *The Batman: Part II* is slated for release on October 1, 2027. Thankfully, most of the cast – including Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and even Colin Farrell – are all coming back! They’re planning to start filming in April or May of 2026, which feels like a long wait, but I’m sure it’ll be worth it.
2) Bane and Deathstroke Movie
In September 2024, Matthew Orton (known for his work on *Captain America: Brave New World*) was initially reported to be writing a movie teaming up DC villains Bane and Deathstroke. While James Gunn later seemed to dispute those specific details, he did confirm Orton is involved in a DC Universe project. A live-action team-up between Bane and Deathstroke would be exciting, but the project’s future remains unclear. However, reports surfaced in July 2025 that the script had been submitted to DC Studios, suggesting the project may be progressing.
1) Dynamic Duo
In addition to several live-action films in the works, DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation are developing an animated movie called *Dynamic Duo*. This will be the first full-length feature from Swaybox Studios, with James Gunn and Matt Reeves producing. The film will focus on Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, two former partners of Batman, and how their different approaches are challenged. Currently, *Dynamic Duo* is scheduled to be released in June 2028, meaning fans will have to wait a while to see it in theaters.
It’s currently unknown if the upcoming film, *Dynamic Duo*, will take place within the main DC Universe, the world established by Matt Reeves’ *The Batman*, or in a separate alternate DC reality. Beyond *Dynamic Duo*, there are also reports and speculation about other potential projects, like a sequel to the 2005 *Constantine* movie, a film based on the DC comic *The Jurassic League*, and possible movies featuring characters like Lobo, Metal Men, and Static Shock. Overall, DC’s future in movies looks promising, giving fans a lot to anticipate.
