Disaster movies are incredibly popular because they offer a thrilling and exciting experience, letting audiences safely witness chaos and destruction. Classics like *Airport*, *Titanic*, and *Independence Day* are particularly memorable, and newer films like *Twisters* continue to deliver that exhilarating feeling. Now, fans of the genre can stream one of the best disaster movies, as it’s recently become available on a streaming service.
Starting October 1st, you can watch Roland Emmerich’s 2004 disaster film, *The Day After Tomorrow*, for free on Tubi. The movie stars Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal and follows a climate scientist’s dangerous trip from Washington D.C. to New York City to rescue his son as the world plunges into a new ice age. The film is known for its dramatic scenes of extreme weather, including massive hailstorms in Tokyo, tornadoes in Los Angeles, and a sudden, deep freeze in New York.
The Day After Tomorrow Still Holds Up in 2025
It’s been over 20 years since *The Day After Tomorrow* was a blockbuster hit, earning $552 million worldwide and becoming one of the top films of 2004. But the movie still holds up remarkably well. In fact, its themes feel even more relevant – and frightening – today than when it was first released. While, like most disaster films, it takes some liberties with science for dramatic effect, its focus on rapid climate change is particularly timely. With increasingly urgent conversations about the climate crisis and a constant stream of natural disasters, the film’s message really hits home.
Despite more recent disaster movies, *The Day After Tomorrow* is still a fantastic and rewatchable film. It delivers classic disaster-movie thrills with a compelling story about a father trying to reach his son during a massive superstorm. What really makes it stand out are the incredible visual effects, which still look impressive today and create unforgettable scenes – like the tsunami engulfing New York and a snow-covered Statue of Liberty. It set a high bar for the genre and remains a landmark disaster film.
Other Sci-Fi Movies Now on Tubi
If you love science fiction, Tubi is a fantastic streaming option. They’ve recently added a bunch of new movies, making it a great place to find something to watch after you’ve finished *The Day After Tomorrow*. Some of the new titles available on Tubi include *Annihilation*, *The Crow*, *Independence Day: Resurgence*, *Three Thousand Years Of Longing*, and *Total Recall*.
