A new role-playing game (RPG) is getting rave reviews on Xbox Series S and X, earning a perfect 5 out of 5 stars from players on the Microsoft Store. While Xbox fans are clearly enjoying the game, it’s not available on Xbox One. This means players with the older console will need to upgrade to a newer system to experience it.
With almost 200 user reviews, *Digimon Story Time Stranger* has achieved a perfect 5/5 star rating. While not a huge number of reviews, it’s still a significant amount, especially considering the RPG was only released on October 3rd. The game is developed by Media Vision and published by Bandai Namco, and it currently costs $70.
5/5 User Review Score
Digimon Story Time Stranger has received a good score of 78 on Metacritic, but player reviews are much higher. It’s a hit on both Xbox and Steam, with Steam users giving it a 92% approval rating, and it also has a strong 4.72 out of 5 rating on the PlayStation Store. While there’s a noticeable difference between critic and player scores – something that happens fairly often – the reason for this gap isn’t clear.
One user review on the Microsoft Store calls this the best *Digimon* game they’ve ever played. They recommend it to fans of turn-based battles, RPGs, and monster-collecting games.
One player raves about the game, calling it amazing with a really compelling story. They highly recommend it to fans of Japanese role-playing games and the *Digimon* series.
Even though *Digimon Story Time Stranger* is the seventh game in its series, it’s completely self-contained, making it a perfect place to start for new players. You don’t need to have played any previous *Digimon* games or know anything about the series to enjoy it. If you’re a fan of Japanese role-playing games (JRPGs), turn-based battles, or games where you collect and train monsters, you’ll likely have fun. Just be aware that, like many JRPGs, it can require a bit of repetitive gameplay at times, as our review explains.
What to Expect
Similar to past *Digimon* role-playing games, *Digimon Story Time Stranger* offers a lot of content to justify its full price. While it’s not quite as lengthy as some well-known JRPGs like the *Persona* series (which also influenced its design), completing the game with all the optional side quests will take around 50 hours.
This game isn’t as large in scope as *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, nor is it as focused and original as *Clair Obscur: Expedition 33*. While it doesn’t quite reach the level of those two top RPGs, it would likely be a contender for the best RPG of 2025 if they didn’t exist.
