Seven X-Men characters are confirmed to be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in *Avengers: Doomsday*. Fans are excited to see the X-Men team up with the Avengers to fight Doctor Doom in Phase 6 of the MCU. Given that the 20th Century Fox films didn’t fully showcase the mutants’ incredible powers, it will be fantastic to see these original actors reprise their roles and demonstrate those abilities before a new cast is chosen for the MCU’s *X-Men* reboot.
Although Marvel Studios acquired the rights to the X-Men in 2019, the team hasn’t officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet. We’ve seen a few familiar X-Men characters appear, but the upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday* and *Avengers: Secret Wars* will be a final nod to the previous *X-Men* films from Fox before Marvel reintroduces these iconic mutants with new actors. Jake Schreier, who is directing *Thunderbolts* , will lead the *X-Men* reboot, and we’re looking forward to seeing these powerful characters return to the big screen soon.
7) Hank McCoy’s Beast
Hank McCoy, also known as Beast, is one of the X-Men returning in *Avengers: Doomsday*. While incredibly strong, agile, and intelligent due to his mutant abilities – and played by Kelsey Grammer – he’s actually the least powerful of the returning X-Men. Though Beast is a valuable fighter with impressive stamina, his powers don’t quite match those of his teammates. Hopefully, *Avengers: Doomsday* will give us more opportunities to see Beast in action, as he hasn’t had many prominent moments so far.
6) Remy LeBeau’s Gambit
Channing Tatum has finally played Gambit, the Cajun mutant, in *Deadpool & Wolverine* after years of campaigning for the part. He showed off his fighting skills and his power to charge objects with energy, turning them into explosives. Gambit assisted Deadpool and Wolverine in escaping the Void, and it’s now confirmed he’ll be back in *Avengers: Doomsday*. While his explosive abilities make him stronger than Beast, he’s likely still less powerful than some of the other mutants set to return.
5) Kurt Wagner’s Nightcrawler
Alan Cumming famously played Nightcrawler only once in a live-action film, so news of his return in *Avengers: Doomsday* was a big surprise and thrilled fans. Nightcrawler’s power allows him to instantly travel from place to place by briefly stepping into another dimension called the Brimstone Dimension. While this makes him stronger and more versatile than mutants like Beast and Gambit, the fact that his teleportation can sometimes be anticipated and has certain limits means many other mutants are considered more powerful overall.
4) Scott Summers’ Cyclops
In the *X-Men* movies made by Fox, James Marsden’s character, Cyclops, wasn’t given much to do and ultimately died tragically in *X-Men: The Last Stand*. However, Cyclops is getting a chance to shine in the upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday*, and the recent *X-Men ’97* series has shown fans just how strong he truly is. His optic blasts are actually much more powerful than what we’ve seen in the films, giving him a broader skillset even compared to characters like Nightcrawler and Gambit. We’re excited to see him fully utilize these abilities in *Avengers: Doomsday*.
3) Raven Darkhölme’s Mystique
It was unexpected to see Rebecca Romijn return as Mystique in Avengers: Doomsday, especially after Jennifer Lawrence played the character for nearly ten years. Mystique is a truly unique mutant, famous for her ability to shapeshift into anyone she chooses. This makes her a skilled spy, and she’s also incredibly agile, strong, and enduring – a powerful fighter. Combining her shapeshifting powers with her impressive combat skills, Mystique is one of the most exciting characters to join the cast of Doomsday.
2) Erik Lehnsherr’s Magneto
Controlling metal and magnetism might not seem like a particularly strong ability at first glance. However, Magneto’s power is actually immense. With Ian McKellen reprising his role in *Avengers: Doomsday*, we can expect to see some of Magneto’s most spectacular displays of power yet – potentially similar to his recent actions in *X-Men ’97*, where he created an electromagnetic pulse that briefly plunged the world into darkness. Beyond his abilities, Magneto is a very influential figure, making him a major villain in the Marvel universe and a compelling character in *Doomsday*.
1) Charles Xavier’s Professor X
Professor X is one of the most powerful mutants in Marvel Comics, making Patrick Stewart’s return to the role in *Avengers: Doomsday* a huge event for fans. Charles Xavier can control minds, and by the time of *Logan*, his abilities were so strong they were considered a threat to everyone. Beyond his immense power, Professor X is also a brilliant scientist, a leading expert in genetics and mutation, and is classified as an incredibly rare ‘omega-level’ mutant. Seeing him join Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to be amazing.
