Although the PlayStation 5 Pro was released in November, it’s just beginning to fully utilize its hardware and new features by developers. It’s fascinating to watch developers who previously worked on the standard console make use of its enhanced GPU power, as demonstrated by Survios’ Alien: Rogue Incursion.
The initial portion was unveiled in December 2024 for PlayStation VR2, Meta Quest 3, and computer-based VR hardware. A standard version, dubbed “Evolved Edition,” follows on September 30th exclusively for PS5 and PC systems. We had a chat with TQ Jefferson, the studio’s top product officer, about the PS5 Pro and its GPU’s role in development.
Much like transitioning from virtual reality to a flatscreen elevated the visual quality of games, PS5 Pro enables us to further match the visual style of the ‘Alien’ universe. Enhanced lighting and volumetric fog effects accentuate the distinctive aesthetic seen in the classic ‘Alien’ films as we delve into the play of light and contrasting dark shadows, where potential threats might lurk. Moreover, improved reflections and texturing emphasize the worn-future design that is central to our universe.
Absolutely, PS5 Pro owners can anticipate more upgrades! As part of Sony’s agreement with AMD for Project Amethyst, Mark Cerny, the lead system architect, mentioned a non-exclusive “drop-in replacement” for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) in its current form. This upgrade will bring even more impressive visual enhancements to lower-resolution games and is planned to roll out in 2026. Keep an eye on updates until then!
