For a long time, DC seemed to undervalue its Arrowverse shows, despite their popularity and strong storytelling. The CW series often faced limitations, and if a movie wanted to use a character, the Arrowverse version would have to be removed – a prime example being the death of Deadshot in *Arrow*. While the DC Extended Universe struggled to find its footing, the Arrowverse was steadily building towards a major adaptation of the iconic “Crisis on Infinite Earths” comic book event. And unlike the DCEU, the Arrowverse was allowed to conclude naturally, making it one of DC’s most successful ventures recently.
As a huge fan of superhero films and TV, I’ve always found the relationship between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Arrowverse interesting. Shows like *Arrow* and *The Flash* have often gone out of their way to show support for Marvel, trying to foster a sense of community where all superhero content could succeed. Marvel hasn’t really reciprocated that goodwill, but honestly, there’s something the DC shows do really well that Marvel could learn from – and it could solve a problem that’s been building for years.
The Arrowverse Never Turned Down an Opportunity for a Crossover
As a huge fan of superhero TV, I always loved how the Arrowverse built its world through crossovers. It began simply enough – Green Arrow and The Flash teaming up to fight crime in both Star City and Central City. But it didn’t stop there! Slowly, other heroes like Supergirl and the Legends of Tomorrow joined the mix. Eventually, these crossovers became these massive, world-ending events that required *everyone* to pitch in. They even brought in characters from the DC movies, like the Flash from the DCEU, just to make the scale feel truly epic. But what really made it work, I think, wasn’t just the big threats – it was the dynamic between the heroes themselves. They clearly understood that, and I heard they had this cool ‘superhero fight club’ thing to help the actors build chemistry and make those team-ups believable.
To build excitement for new shows, The CW used to create short videos featuring characters from their different series battling each other. These fun matchups allowed heroes and villains who never normally meet to clash. While these videos weren’t considered official storylines, they made the universe feel more connected and suggested characters interacted even when not actively featured in episodes. The Marvel Cinematic Universe could really benefit from something similar right now, as fan enthusiasm is currently very low.
The MCU Could Adopt Its Own Version of the Superhero Fight Club
The upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday* has a lot to prove, especially following the massive success of *Avengers: Endgame*. Like *Infinity War*, this movie will bring all the heroes together to face a major villain – Doctor Doom. But the Marvel Cinematic Universe has changed since 2017. While a new team of Avengers is taking center stage, they’re still getting to know each other. Sam Wilson’s team will include well-known heroes like Thor and Black Panther, but the new Captain America hasn’t spent much time with them yet. Because of this, *Doomsday* will need to focus on developing those team relationships as much as it does on the central conflict.
Imagine if the Marvel Cinematic Universe had a superhero training ground, like a fight club. Marvel could easily release a preview showing Sam Wilson’s new team practicing together and even addressing their conflicts with Bucky Barnes and his group. As seen in *Shang-Chi*, there’s already an established underground fighting scene with metahumans that Wong knows about – it could be the perfect place for training. If Marvel truly wants to rebuild the Avengers and make them central to the franchise again, they need to explore every possibility, even ideas from other superhero universes that could create exciting challenges.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
