Techland’s new release, *Dying Light: The Beast*, has done well, but the studio aimed for even greater success, especially after the somewhat underwhelming response to *Dying Light 2 Stay Human*. According to franchise director Tymon Smektała, the feedback on *Dying Light 2 Stay Human* actually helped them create a better experience with *Dying Light: The Beast*.
Based on player feedback, the latest update is much more focused and easier to understand than the second game, which tried to do too much. As the developer explained, “We learned that prioritizing clarity and paying attention to the small things is key.” While they’re proud of their accomplishments with *Dying Light 2 Stay Human*, they realized that sometimes, a simpler approach is better.
Later in the interview, Smektała explained how Techland streamlined Dying Light: The Beast. They aimed to create a more focused experience while still capturing the immersive, thrilling, and emotional gameplay and story that players loved in the original Dying Light.
According to the developers, *Dying Light: The Beast* has been streamlined to create a more focused and impactful experience. They aimed for a game that feels intense, realistic, and emotionally engaging, and they incorporated feedback from the player community to improve combat, movement, and the overall speed of the game.
In June, Smektała mentioned that Techland had gained valuable experience from *Dying Light 2 Stay Human*. He explained in an interview that, while developing the sequel, the studio had unintentionally moved away from some of the core elements that defined the original *Dying Light*.
According to Smektala, fans told the team they didn’t want a typical, highly-polished game experience with *Dying Light 2 Stay Human*; they wanted what originally made the game special.
He went on to say they aim to achieve two things with *Dying Light: The Beast*. They want to maintain the high quality players expect from a major title, but also prove they still have the creative spark that made the original *Dying Light* so successful. Ultimately, they’ll be satisfied if players feel the new game captures the spirit of the first *Dying Light* while looking and playing exceptionally well.
Released just last month, *Dying Light: The Beast* is already proving popular with players. Although Techland hasn’t shared official sales numbers, they recently revealed that players have collectively spent over 25 million hours playing the game.
Techland highlighted that players’ actions in the game – fighting, moving, and even making noise – all contribute to Kyle’s drive for revenge. They praised the community for overcoming challenges, defeating numerous enemies, and leaving a lasting impact on the game world of Castor Woods.
