The new Battlefield game, Battlefield 6, from Electronic Arts (EA) has launched to huge success. It’s received overwhelmingly positive reviews and quickly attracted over 750,000 players on Steam. Since then, hundreds of thousands of players have been enjoying the game simultaneously on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation 5.
Battlefield 6 had a very strong launch for EA and the game’s developers, and it’s likely to stay popular for a long time. With the creative potential of its Portal mode – which lets players design their own games – it could easily remain a hit for years to come.
As an analyst, I’ve been looking closely at player feedback, and while the game has potential, it’s not without its problems. A lot of players dislike the menu system – it feels too much like a Netflix interface. More critically, the bloom lighting is far too intense. It’s making it genuinely hard for people to see enemies, especially when they’re near windows or doorways, which impacts gameplay significantly.
One of the biggest issues with Battlefield 6 is its Challenge system. Daily and Weekly Challenges are pretty straightforward and just give you experience points, and you usually complete them naturally while playing. These Challenges are generally okay.
Some of the more complex challenges – those tied to specific weapons, modes, or classes – have oddly difficult or confusing goals that seem unbalanced. What makes it worse is that you *have* to finish these challenges to unlock certain weapons and gadgets in Battlefield 6, meaning they’re essential for anyone who wants to fully experience the game’s progression.
Since Challenges launched last Friday, the Battlefield community has been sharing a lot of negative feedback. Many of the most popular posts on the Battlefield subreddit currently express strong criticism about the feature.
One player strongly criticized the first challenge for light machine guns in Bullet Storm 1, calling it frustrating and poorly designed. They complained that the challenge – which requires dealing over 10,000 damage while firing from the hip – felt like it was created by someone unfamiliar with the game, and expressed extreme dissatisfaction with it.
Since Challenges launched last Friday, the Battlefield community has been very vocal about their disappointment. Many of the most popular posts on the Battlefield subreddit are currently critical of the feature.
Light machine guns aren’t accurate without aiming, so asking players to use them while running around is counterproductive. It encourages bad gameplay – rushing into close combat – when these weapons are *meant* to be used from a safe position, providing covering fire and controlling key areas.
The ‘Close Quarters 1’ challenge, which asks players to deal a certain amount of damage with submachine guns while aiming down sights, feels backwards. Submachine guns are actually quite good when fired from the hip while moving, so the challenge should focus on that strength. Instead, it forces players to slow down and aim down sights – a technique better suited for longer-range weapons like assault and marksman rifles.
Some of the “Unit” challenges are proving really difficult for players, particularly Conquest 3 and Escalation 4. These require a high number of kills – 30 and 35 respectively – while also completing the objectives in each mode. One player expressed their surprise, saying the challenges feel overly demanding. They questioned why such a high kill count – 30 within a single round – is necessary, rather than spread out over time.

Fortunately, the challenges you need to complete in each class to unlock gadgets are generally pretty reasonable. However, a lot of players, including me, are currently running into bugs with them.
I tried playing Battlefield 6 over the launch weekend, but none of the in-game challenges seem to be working – they aren’t registering my progress. This means I’m still using the basic starting equipment for all the classes, which is disappointing because I want to experiment with different weapon setups.
It seems this issue is more related to the initial launch of Battlefield 6 than the Challenges themselves, but getting into that isn’t the main point right now. Basically, whether it’s due to strangely designed goals or this frustrating bug, completing Challenges in the game is currently a hassle.

It’s disappointing, because I really enjoy almost everything else about Battlefield 6’s multiplayer and I’m eager to feel like I’m actually making progress. Hopefully, EA and Battlefield Studios will release some updates to fix the Challenges soon.
Battlefield 6 is currently available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5 for $69.99. You can find significant discounts on the Xbox version at Loaded (formerly CDKeys), where the Standard Edition is $61.19 and the Phantom Edition is $81.59 – a savings from its usual price of $100.
