Konatsu Kato, the voice actress for Hinako Shimizu in *Silent Hill f*, recently shared how playing the character affected her. In an interview with Famitsu (reported by Automaton Media), Kato explained that portraying Hinako and her experiences in the game made her feel like she was losing touch with reality.
Kato initially found the recording process to be easy, but as the story progressed, the role became more emotionally challenging. Because she had to re-record certain scenes with different feelings and nuances, she began to ask more questions to better understand her character.
As we continued recording, the story started to expand in many directions,” she explained. “I often found myself thinking, while capturing new scenes, ‘This feels familiar, but the dialogue and feelings are different… Wait, what’s happening? What is Hinako up to?’
The situation became particularly challenging when she needed to record dialogue where Hinako was talking to herself – or rather, another version of herself.
Playing the same character, Hinako, as another actor was incredibly disorienting for me—I often lost track of who *I* was, both as the character and as myself. I would unexpectedly burst into tears, even when I wasn’t consciously thinking about anything sad. The more time we spent acting opposite each other, the more confused I became, to the point where I genuinely worried about my mental state.
In a recent interview, Kato confessed she hadn’t played any of the *Silent Hill* games prior to being cast and doesn’t typically enjoy horror, as she believes in ghosts. She initially questioned why she was chosen for the role of Hinako, worrying about being immersed in a scary world. While she acknowledges this might sound like a negative reaction, she hopes people will see it as a positive one, admitting it was a significant concern for her.
Kato found that playing the character Hinako had a strong psychological effect, causing her to forget many details about her work on the game *Silent Hill f*. She explained that she only remembers bits and pieces, like the voice acting sessions, and that even sharing those memories felt like piecing them together from fragments.
Konami and Neobards Entertainment’s *Silent Hill f* has been a hit with both players and critics. Series producer Motoi Okamoto expressed his excitement about the game’s positive reception and highlighted the contributions of writer Ryukishi07 to its story.
Okamoto shared on X that he’s very happy *Silent Hill f* received a Metascore of 86, the same as the *Silent Hill 2* remake. He noted the game, set in Japan with a story by Ryukishi07 and a focus on combat, was designed to be challenging and potentially divisive, so he’s especially thankful for the positive reception.
