After keeping a low profile for several years, Quantic Dream appears ready to return with a new game release.
This project isn’t another interactive story like *Detroit: Become Human* or *Beyond: Two Souls*. Instead, we’re creating a competitive, team-based game called *Spellcasters Chronicles*.
The studio first revealed plans for Star Wars: Eclipse back in 2021, but there haven’t been many updates until recently. It’s now been revealed they’ve actually been working on a second game simultaneously.
Don’t worry, Star Wars: Eclipse is still being developed. David Cage, founder of Quantic Dream, mentioned in a blog post that they’re also focusing some of their efforts on a new, separate project.
Quantic Dream, known for its story-driven, interactive games, appears to be trying something different with Spellcasters Chronicles.
Spellcasters Chronicles is a team-based competitive game, similar to a MOBA, where two teams of three players face off. It’s played from a third-person viewpoint – a recent example of this style is Marvel Rivals. The developers, Quantic Dream, are adding unique features to help the game differentiate itself.
The game features a world where everyone has magical powers – that’s where the name comes from. All characters can fly whenever they choose, and for as long as they want. Because of this, most of the battles will take place in the air, with players casting spells while flying.
Quantic Dream’s Vision and Perspective of the Game
I love how the developers really wanted to make me *feel* like I was right in the middle of the action, not just watching it from above. That’s what Greg Diaconu, one of the game’s directors, told me – they prioritized putting me, the player, directly into the heart of the battlefield.
He believes that by offering this new viewpoint, combined with the power of flight, players can see everything happening during battles, providing them with a strategic advantage.
There will also be a deck-building mechanic of some sort, it seems.
We also focused heavily on letting players build their own decks. Instead of just a game about heroes, we wanted to encourage creativity and allow players to find powerful combinations between spells and the characters using them.
Before each game, you get to pick up to four spells to help you. These spells can do things like attack opponents, provide assistance, summon creatures, or even let you build structures.

The developers want players to be able to customize both how they play and their overall style. They plan to include roughly 60 different creatures, buildings, and spells when the game first releases, according to Diaconu.
A match can include up to 600 summoned creatures, and usually takes about 25 minutes to complete.
Why the Shift in Genre
The team began developing Spellcasters Chronicles seven years ago, not long after the release of their game, Detroit: Become Human.
The developers still enjoy making story-focused games, but they’re also exploring other types of games to broaden their experience.
According to Quantic Dream’s David Cage, several teams are hard at work creating a new wave of games. This includes a unique competitive multiplayer title, built with the same innovative and imaginative approach that has always been central to their work.
He explained that although fans might be surprised by the new title, Quantic Dream has always been about taking chances and trying new things.
I was so excited when they finally released a gameplay video! I’ve been waiting to see how the game actually plays, and it looks amazing. You can check it out below – I highly recommend it!
A closed beta test is planned for later this year. While you wait, you can find Spellcasters Chronicles on Steam.
