Despite being a major success for the franchise – selling 7 million copies in its first three days – *Battlefield 6* does have one significant problem, a common issue for many recent games. While the game is a standout title this fall and is expected to grow in popularity with new content and positive word-of-mouth, there are still some areas that could be improved.
It’s awesome that the team over at Battlefield Studios actually listens to us players! They’re really active on social media, always asking what we think could make the game better. They’ve said some things, like how they’re sticking to their guns on movement, which is fair enough – at least they’re honest about it. But there’s one thing a lot of us are really frustrated with, and honestly, the devs haven’t really addressed it yet.
The Problem With Battlefield 6‘s Challenges

A major problem with *Battlefield 6* is how it handles unlocking content. Although I generally liked the game, I pointed out that its progression system could be frustrating. *Battlefield 6* requires players to complete “assignments” to earn new items. While some are just cosmetic, others unlock important weapons and equipment for different classes. Challenges aren’t necessarily a bad idea – they can be a good way to reward effort – but they need to be well-designed and implemented effectively.
The challenges in *Battlefield 6* can be frustrating. I’ve been trying to complete one specific assault rifle challenge since the game launched – getting 100 kills from 50 meters away. It’s not overly difficult, but it’s really repetitive. It encourages me to play passively and stay far from the action, which slows down the game and discourages playing the objective. Since it’s harder to get long-range shots while capturing points, I feel penalized for playing the way I enjoy. I’ve mostly stopped trying to complete it, and the game’s weapon spread makes it even more difficult.
I’ve noticed this isn’t just me – I’ve played with tons of people trying to quickly finish these in-game tasks, but they end up near the bottom of the leaderboard. They get so focused on things like getting headshots or completing specific challenges that it actually holds them back. It’s something I’ve seen in other games too, like *Halo Infinite* and Call of Duty – you really have to grind to get anything you want. Honestly, as a fan, I think this “live service” style of gameplay really hurts the experience. It forces you to play in ways that aren’t fun, and it can even drag your team down too.

Often, after paying around $70 for a game, players find themselves stuck doing repetitive tasks just to unlock content. This feels less about skillful gameplay and more about keeping players online for longer, which is especially annoying in paid games. I often find myself spending more time checking my progress than actually enjoying the game.
Even though I find it frustrating, I understand that games that are constantly updated need to give players goals to achieve. However, I think the solution to this issue can be found in previous games. While assignments aren’t new to the Battlefield series, this implementation in Battlefield 6 feels particularly weak. Battlefield 3 handled this much better.
In Battlefield 3, some weapons weren’t available right away – you had to earn them through downloadable content. I believe that’s a good place to start requiring a bit of effort. You could unlock everything in the main game just by playing, but getting extra items meant putting in more time. Since Battlefield 6 is offering all its new content for free, it makes sense to ask players to work a little harder to unlock the new weapons.
Making changes to *Battlefield 6* now is likely impossible, but for future games, it would be great to simplify the assignment system. *Battlefield 3*’s assignments were less demanding, and a similar, more straightforward approach would be welcome.
