A year after having originally announced an offline mode for racing title The Crew 2, Ubisoft has now finally released the update for the game. The update now allows players to play The Crew 2 in either online mode with full multiplayer features, as well as a new offline mode that can be used without any required Internet connection. This new option to choose whether you will play in offline or online mode has been referred to by Ubisoft as Hybrid mode.
With the new Hybrid Mode in *The Crew 2*, players can choose to experience the game online or offline, offering flexibility in how they explore the United States, race, and collect vehicles. Ubisoft announced that this mode allows players to save their progress for future use or simply enjoy the game without an internet connection, ensuring *The Crew 2* stays playable for years to come.
After the update, players without an internet connection will automatically start *The Crew 2* in offline mode. Players who are connected will be asked if they want to play online or offline. If you want to use your existing progress in offline mode, you can use the “Export to Offline Save” option while playing online. This will create a separate, local copy of your game data.
Just a heads-up for anyone wondering about saving – your progress in the online and offline modes doesn’t connect. Anything you unlock or achieve while playing offline won’t automatically show up in your online game, and vice versa. But don’t worry! If you want to transfer your offline progress to online, there’s an option to ‘Export to Offline Save’ that lets you do just that. It’s the same with things like in-game money and rewards – they’re kept separate for each mode, so you’ll have different amounts depending on where you’re playing.
Okay, so I found out that because *The Crew 2* was built to be an online game first, playing offline means I’m going to miss out on a few things. Basically, I won’t be able to buy Crew Credits or shop in the Far & Beyond store, I can’t do the LIVE Summits, and obviously, anything multiplayer is out. Also, stuff like creating my own races or customizing cars with the Livery Editor won’t work offline, and some of the achievements and trophies need an internet connection to unlock. It’s a bit of a bummer, but I can still enjoy the core game!
Gregory Corgie, a producer on *The Crew 2*, previously explained that the game’s Hybrid mode lets players switch between online and offline play. At the time, the team was prioritizing bringing a fully functional offline mode to *The Crew 2*. While *The Crew Motorfest* could potentially receive a similar update in the future, Corgie indicated that it would likely happen after Ubisoft finishes releasing planned post-launch content for the game.
Here’s a breakdown of fifteen key differences between *The Crew 2* and its follow-up, offering a closer look at how the two games compare.
