Sci-fi horror is thriving in 2025, with films ranging from stories of survival in a zombie outbreak to battles between AI and robots. Recent hits like 28 Years Later and M3GAN 2.0 have captivated audiences, and now one of the year’s best sci-fi horror films is available to stream on Prime Video.
The new thriller Companion is now streaming on Prime Video. From the creators of Barbarian, the film follows a couple, played by Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid, whose relaxing weekend trip to a secluded cabin takes a dark turn when they uncover secrets and strange technology. The movie also stars Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, and Rupert Friend. It was written and directed by Drew Hancock and produced by Roy Lee, Raphael Margules, and J. D. Lifshitz.
Why You Should Watch Companion
Companion is a thrilling and unpredictable movie that skillfully blends horror, science fiction, and comedy. It tells the fast-paced story of an android gaining self-awareness, which serves as a warning about the potential risks of technology advancing too quickly. The film delves into thought-provoking themes like freedom, control, unhealthy relationships, and the very definition of humanity. With memorable performances from Thatcher and Quaid, and a remarkably strong first-time direction by Hancock, Companion is a suspenseful and exciting experience from start to finish.
I remember when Companion came out in January 2025 – it was one of the first films that year to really blow everyone away, and honestly, it still holds up as one of the best of the whole year. 2025 was packed with great movies, like 28 Years Later, Sorry, Baby, and Black Bag, but Companion really stood out. It got amazing scores on Rotten Tomatoes – ‘Certified Fresh’ and ‘Verified Hot,’ with critics giving it a 93% and audiences an 89%! Plus, it was a huge commercial success, earning over $36 million worldwide on a $10 million budget. It’s a shame, then, that despite all the praise and money it made, there aren’t any plans for a sequel as of now.
Other Sci-Fi and Horror Movies Now on Prime Video
October is a great month for science fiction and horror fans, and Prime Video has plenty to offer. Throughout the past month, many new movies became available on the service, with a large batch added on October 1st. Viewers can now enjoy sci-fi films like 1984, Lucy (2014), Moonraker, and Waterworld. For those seeking a fright, Prime Video also has a selection of horror titles including Bodies Bodies Bodies, the original Candyman (1992), Tremors, and several classic Universal Monster movies.
