The Biggest DCU Batman Fancast Would Be Perfect for Recasting a Divisive Nolan Villain

Okay, so everyone’s talking about the new Superman movie, and honestly, it’s a really refreshing take. David Corenswet is fantastic as the Man of Steel, and what I loved most is that this Superman seems to genuinely enjoy saving people – it’s less about the big battles and more about helping everyday folks. But, naturally, that kind of heroism draws the attention of Lex Luthor, who goes to seriously extreme lengths to take him down – we’re talking opening a full-blown dimensional rift right in the middle of Metropolis! And believe it or not, that crazy event actually ties into Season 2 of Peacemaker. Apparently, Lex’s warnings about metahumans are getting to Rick Flag Sr., who now thinks they’re a massive threat to the planet.

James Gunn and his team are heavily focused on the “Salvation” storyline for Superman, which has overshadowed news about other upcoming DC projects. A Batman movie is quietly being developed, but it’s stalled because they haven’t found a lead actor. While fans are pushing for a particular actor, he doesn’t seem quite right for Batman. However, he’d be a great choice for a reimagining of one of the weakest villains from Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight films within the broader DC Universe.

This Potential Batman Actor Is More Villain Than Hero

Finding the right actor to play Batman is notoriously difficult in Hollywood. It’s like casting two roles in one, because Bruce Wayne and Batman have very different personalities. An actor needs to convincingly portray both the wealthy, public playboy and the dark, brooding hero. Some actors, like George Clooney, are great at playing Bruce Wayne, while others, such as Ben Affleck, really shine when they’re in the Batman costume. Now, the team behind the DC Universe is looking for someone who can truly embody all aspects of the character, and Alan Ritchson is a name that keeps coming up as a strong possibility.

Alan Ritchson, the lead in Prime Video’s Reacher, is physically imposing and dominates every fight scene. But his character isn’t just a brawler; he’s also a smart strategist who can talk his way out of trouble. While some compare him to Batman, Ritchson doesn’t seem interested in playing the Dark Knight. That’s good news, because the DC Universe needs an actor with considerable skill to portray Bane, and Ritchson would be a perfect fit.

The Movies Just Can’t Seem to Get Bane Right

Bane first appeared in live-action in the often-criticized film Batman & Robin, where he mainly served as a strong, silent enforcer for Poison Ivy, focused on defeating Batman and his allies. Given how poorly received Batman & Robin was overall, it’s easy to understand why Bane wasn’t well-developed in that film. Christopher Nolan is known for high-quality work, so it’s disappointing that even he struggled to create a compelling version of Bane. In The Dark Knight Rises, Bane is again relegated to a supporting role in another villain’s plan, and many viewers found Tom Hardy’s unusual voice for the character distracting.

Alan Ritchson would be a fantastic Bane if he can fit it into his schedule. He has the qualities needed for Batman, but could really shine as Bane. Previous movies, like Batman & Robin and The Dark Knight Rises, didn’t fully showcase Bane’s intelligence – which is just as important as his strength in the comics. Ritchson could fix that; he’s proven he can play complex characters, not just physically imposing ones.
