Classic MOBA Returns With New Remaster (And It’s Free-To-Play)

As a longtime gamer, it’s always bittersweet seeing how online games age. Some, like World of Warcraft and RuneScape, have managed to stay alive for years, even if they’ve changed a lot. But sadly, so many others have completely disappeared when their servers were shut down – it’s heartbreaking when a community around games like City of Heroes or Warhammer Online just vanishes. Sometimes fans try to keep the spirit alive with their own servers, but it’s never quite the same experience. That’s why I was so excited to hear about Heroes of Newerth: Reborn – it’s awesome to see a beloved game getting a second chance!

I remember when Heroes of Newerth first came out in 2010 – it was so exciting! It went free-to-play in 2011, and it quickly became really popular, especially because it felt familiar to anyone who played Warcraft III or Dota. It was a bummer when the original game shut down in 2022, with Dota 2 and League of Legends becoming so dominant. Thankfully, some dedicated fans kept a little bit of it going with servers like Project Kongor. Now, I’m really excited about Heroes of Newerth: Reborn – it’s a complete reimagining of the game, and it’s heading into Open Beta this November! Hopefully, this will bring the MOBA back to its former glory.

Heroes of Newerth: Reborn Sets Open Beta Release Date

So, Kongor Studios is bringing back Heroes of Newerth with a complete overhaul – they’re calling it Heroes of Newerth: Reborn. What’s really cool is that the team is made up of people who actually made the original game, plus dedicated fans and other experienced devs. They’re promising a big visual update and a smoother experience, but they’re also saying they want to keep everything we loved about the original HON intact. And the best part? They’re launching an Open Beta soon, so more of us will finally get to check it out!

Some players are currently testing Heroes of Newerth: Reborn in a Closed Beta. Soon, on November 11th, the Open Beta will launch, allowing everyone to try the updated game! If you’d like to play even earlier, you can support the project with a $1 donation on the official Heroes of Newerth: Reborn website to join the Closed Beta. Otherwise, the game will be available to everyone starting November 11th. You can get a first look at the game in the original HON: Reborn announcement trailer below.

Heroes of Newerth is getting a major update with Heroes of Newerth: Reborn, featuring a completely new game engine for faster-paced gameplay and a visually updated world. The update will also change the game’s strategy with the addition of a new boss, Phoenix, and fresh gameplay mechanics. Players can look forward to features commonly found in modern MOBAs, like emotes and the ability to select roles before a match. At launch, the game will include over 80 playable heroes, with plans for even more to come after release.

Heroes of Newerth: Reborn is now available in Open Beta on PC through the Juvio platform. Both the Beta and the full game will be free to play. While Kongor Studios hasn’t announced a specific release date for HON: Reborn, they plan to launch it for PC sometime in the future.
