Summer’s big movie season has ended, but several films are still expected to perform well at the box office. Leading the charge is Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third movie in the hugely popular Avatar series. Director James Cameron’s latest film is predicted to be one of the year’s highest earners, drawing large crowds during the busy holiday season. This makes the release of Fire and Ash a perfect opportunity for studios to start promoting their upcoming blockbusters for next year, and audiences can expect to see a lot of new trailers alongside Avatar.
While nothing is official, rumors suggest we might get a first look at trailers for some big 2026 movies when Avatar: Fire and Ash hits theaters. Earlier this month, people speculated about a teaser for Avengers: Doomsday, and it seems other Marvel trailers could be on the way. The website TrailerTrack has heard whispers of a Spider-Man: Brand New Day teaser, and World of Reel reports a full trailer for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is also planned. Supergirl is also being mentioned as a possibility, meaning Avatar: Fire and Ash could be accompanied by as many as four major trailers.
How Many New Trailers Will Be Attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash?

It’s no surprise people are buzzing about trailers potentially showing before Avatar: Fire and Ash. With it being the biggest movie event left this year, any preview shown alongside it is sure to reach a massive global audience. The first two Avatar films both earned over $2 billion worldwide, and while we can’t say for certain Fire and Ash will do the same, it’s expected to be very successful. Showing trailers before the Avatar premiere is a smart way to generate excitement for other big releases, similar to how Universal marketed Oppenheimer by attaching a trailer to Avatar: The Way of Water.
While Avatar: Fire and Ash would be a great place to show trailers for other upcoming movies, we might not see previews for all of them. Studios want their trailers to make a big impact, and launching a first look alongside many other previews could get it overlooked, especially if audiences are more excited about some trailers than others. Of the films rumored to have trailers, Supergirl is slated for release earliest, in June 2026 (half a year after Avatar). Even if a movie skips the Avatar premiere, there’s still time to create a good marketing campaign. The Super Bowl is coming up around the time Avatar hits theaters, but studios are currently trying to save money, so a costly TV ad might not be worth the expense.
It will be interesting to see if trailers for both upcoming Marvel movies are shown before the new Avatar film. Even though Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man: Brand New Day are from different studios, Marvel might coordinate the release of trailers to avoid overwhelming audiences. It could be smarter to release just one Marvel trailer with Avatar: Fire and Ash to keep the focus clear. While Spider-Man: Brand New Day looks promising, its first trailer might not get enough attention if shown alongside the Doomsday trailer. To prevent that, Marvel might have to choose which movie gets the first trailer, rather than trying to promote both at once.
Early looks at trailers for both The Odyssey and Supergirl appear promising. Universal might release The Odyssey trailer similarly to how they handled the Oppenheimer trailer, potentially with an exclusive sneak peek for IMAX theaters before a wider online release. DC Studios gave a first look at Superman in December 2024, and they might use a similar strategy to promote Supergirl as their next big summer movie.
