Unfortunately, it looks like the world of The Boys might be winding down. While the main show is preparing for its fifth and final season – which will conclude the story of The Boys and Homelander – the animated spinoff Diabolical won’t be back for another season. The future of Gen V is also uncertain after its second season. Vought Rising, a new series focusing on Soldier Boy and Stormfront’s past, offers a glimmer of hope, but it’s too early to say if it will continue the franchise for much longer. It’s likely time to prepare for the end of the Boys universe.
It’s going to be disappointing when The Boys ends because it’s truly one of a kind in the superhero genre. The show never holds back, letting its characters be incredibly violent and unrestrained. That same energy and creativity clearly influenced Gen V, which aims to live up to the standards set by its predecessor. Here’s a ranking of every season of both The Boys and Gen V, from least to most enjoyable.
6) The Boys Season 4

Although every season of The Boys is good, Season 4 feels a little slow because it doesn’t advance the main storyline very far. The season focuses on Homelander’s attempt to gain power after publicly revealing his true self and killing a member of The Seven. While it does a good job setting up the final season—including imprisoning most of The Boys and introducing new Supes—it’s still the weakest season so far.
5) Gen V Season 1

As a fan, I’d say the first season of Gen V really reminded me of the first season of The Boys. We’re introduced to Marie Moreau, who’s new to the whole Supe world and basically thrown right into the chaos! I was completely hooked by the conspiracy unfolding at Godolkin University, and it was awesome seeing so many different Supes use their powers. Honestly, the season felt a little uneven at times – but I figured that’s understandable when you’re trying to live up to something as big as The Boys. What really carried the show, though, was the cast. They were fantastic and did a great job keeping things engaging, even when the plot got a little shaky.
4) The Boys Season 1

Season 1 of The Boys finds its place as a solid introduction to the series, which is exactly what it needs to be. Because it spends so much time establishing the world and its characters, it doesn’t have as many shocking moments as later seasons. However, the season excels in its unique point of view. Unlike most superhero shows, The Boys centers around an ordinary person, Hughie Campbell, and shows us the corrupt world of superheroes through his eyes as he discovers the true scope of the battle against Homelander and his team.
3) The Boys Season 3

Each season of The Boys introduces new characters, largely because so many don’t survive. But Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy really stands out – Billy Butcher brings him in to try and defeat Homelander. Soldier Boy’s arrival creates some truly unexpected moments. Season 3 also features the show’s strongest episode, “Herogasm,” which lives up to the hype and throws Butcher, Hughie, and Soldier Boy into a confrontation with Homelander.
2) Gen V Season 2

Season 1 of Gen V left viewers on a cliffhanger, hinting at major events to come for the Godolkin Guardians, and Season 2 delivers in a big way. The show boasts excellent character development, as Marie, Jordan Li, and the others grapple with their identities and roles. The plot moves at a fast pace and keeps you engaged, even if the main twist isn’t entirely surprising. Ultimately, Gen V Season 2 maximizes its potential and effectively builds towards the final season of The Boys.
1) The Boys Season 2

Something special happens in the second season of The Boys. It really moves the story forward by introducing key characters like Stormfront and Ryan Butcher, who both have a big impact on Homelander. The rest of the characters also get their moments to shine, as they each decide what they believe in and are willing to fight for. It all builds to a fantastic finale that’s incredibly moving – one of the most emotional episodes in the whole series.
