emptyvessel recently shared gameplay trailers and screenshots for their cyberpunk first-person shooter, DEFECT.
The team at emptyvessel is thrilled to finally share a first look at gameplay from DEFECT. According to founder and game director Emanuel Palalic, they’ve put a lot of heart and effort into creating the game’s unique feel and core mechanics. DEFECT is an immersive shooter without a heads-up display, where you can destroy any wall. It features gadgets and tools that change how you fight, and every weapon and type of ammo has a unique effect on the environment, objects, and enemies. The game world is designed to create unpredictable, dynamic stories that change based on your choices.

The gameplay trailer for DEFECT launched Galaxies Autumn 2025, and emptyvessel followed it up with another surprise trailer after the show. This extended five-minute version, introduced by studio founder Emanuel Palalic, showcased more gameplay: a heavily armed police squad from THE SYSTEM raiding a rundown apartment complex to eliminate a dangerous AI. They immediately faced resistance from the gang controlling the complex, leading to a chaotic shootout that wrecked the environment. In a clever move, one officer took control of a gang member’s mind, using them to revive a fallen teammate and add them to the police squad for the rest of the match. The squad continued deeper into the building to reset the entire block, making their final stand amidst the neon lights and lasers of an underground dancefloor. A shorter, two-minute version of the trailer highlighted all the intense action and destruction.
Announced earlier in 2024, DEFECT is a new cyberpunk shooter where players team up and battle it out. Developed by emptyvessel, the game offers a deeply immersive and strategic combat experience for fans of action shooters. DEFECT is set in a futuristic city controlled by a mysterious AI called “THE SYSTEM,” where powerful gangs and corrupt police forces are constantly fighting for control. The game is being made by a talented team of developers who have previously worked on famous franchises like DOOM, Call of Duty, and The Last of Us, and features a score by renowned composer Mick Gordon.

Welcome to DEFECT, a world unlike any other where chaos reigns supreme. You’ll experience the unrest of the last human city, controlled by a cold, logical AI called THE SYSTEM. Choose your side – will you fight with THE SYSTEM’s enforcers, rebel as a rogue officer, or join one of the many gangs battling for control? Complete dangerous missions like smuggling weapons, eliminating targets, and taking down suspects. Arm yourself with advanced technology and weaponry to survive in this brutal world.
Each mission offers a unique experience, letting you play as the enforcer, the outlaw, or someone stuck in the middle. Your choices shape how the game unfolds, whether you’re playing solo, competing against others, or teaming up with friends. In 4v4 matches, squads battle to complete various objectives, collect powerful upgrades, and deal with unpredictable combat – meaning every firefight is different.
emptyvessel is launching with DEFECT, a game designed to fully immerse players in its world. Built in Unreal Engine 5, the game combines cutting-edge technology with the team’s creative vision to offer fresh and engaging gameplay.
DEFECT is coming to PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG. The game doesn’t have a release date yet.
