DC Comics has been consistently successful since the release of DC All-In #1 in 2024. This single issue laid the groundwork for numerous storylines, including those in Justice League Unlimited, several Justice League one-shots and miniseries, and the Superman series. It also connected to DC K.O. and the popular Absolute line of books, like Absolute Batman, Absolute Superman, and Absolute Wonder Woman. DC has since added to the Absolute line with three new titles, including Absolute Flash, which introduced a fresh take on Wally West. While this version of the Flash has similar powers to the main universe version, DC revealed he doesn’t draw his power from the Speed Force. This mystery has left fans speculating about the true source of his abilities, a question that begins to be answered in The Flash #26.
Issue #26 of The Flash is part of the DC K.O. event, focusing on Impulse and Wally West. Impulse makes a risky decision to travel back in time to battle Darkseid, who is currently frozen thanks to the Quantum Quora. Written by Mark Waid, one of Impulse’s creators, this issue is a strong entry in the series and potentially reveals a key piece of information about the source of Absolute Wally West’s power.
Darkseid Is the Speed Force’s End

The solution to this mystery lies in two hints. First, Darkseid claims he’ll control the Speed Force. Second, he forces Wally and Impulse to relive painful moments from their past. These scenes are linked by red energy – the same type of energy Wally West used in Absolute Flash. Absolute Flash has already shown us distorted versions of the past and future, similar to what the speedsters experience, suggesting a connection between this red energy and the power explored in that story.
Darkseid transformed himself into pure Omega energy, spreading throughout all realities. Because of his immense power and ancient existence, he’s had eons to learn how to mimic the effects of the Speed Force using his Omega energy. He’s apparently succeeded in doing so, and this is very likely the source of Absolute Wally West’s abilities.
Darkseid has spent countless ages mastering his powers, aiming to essentially become the foundation of everything in the DC Multiverse – which is why the events in DC K.O. are so critical, as he’s now woven into the very structure of reality. This explains the strange occurrences in Absolute Flash – how Wally West’s abilities are functioning and those unsettling visions of the past and future. Darkseid has become one with the Speed Force.
