Starting November 15th, all four Jaws movies—the original 1975 hit and its sequels—will be removed from Netflix. This is especially notable as 2025 will be the 50th anniversary of the first film. Director Quentin Tarantino famously declared Jaws “the greatest movie ever made” in a 2022 podcast appearance, emphasizing that no film could improve upon it.
Jaws Is One of the Most Influential Movies of All Time
Despite initial worries that Jaws might ruin his career, the film proved to be incredibly influential. It essentially launched the modern summer blockbuster, thanks to a massive marketing push and a wide release – meaning it opened on hundreds of screens at once. Jaws was the first movie to earn over $100 million domestically, eventually grossing over $495 million worldwide. Critics and audiences loved it too, and it still boasts a 97% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Though many shark movies have followed, Steven Spielberg’s 1975 film Jaws still stands out as a landmark achievement in filmmaking. It not only launched Spielberg’s career and shaped cinema for decades, but it’s also a brilliant example of how to build suspense through careful direction, pacing, and camera angles, alongside strong character development. Even after 50 years, Jaws remains a thrilling and impactful movie experience.
Where to Watch the Jaws Franchise After It Leaves Netflix
The Jaws movies might soon leave streaming services altogether. Currently, all four films are only available on Netflix, and there are no plans for them to move to another platform in November. While some streaming services haven’t announced their November lineups yet, there’s still a chance the films could end up elsewhere. For now, fans can watch all four Jaws movies on Netflix until November 15th, after which they’ll be available to rent or buy digitally.
