Marvel has found significant success with its video games, including popular titles like Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Marvel United, Marvel Rivals, and Marvel Zombies: A Zombicide Game, with upcoming games like Wolverine and Marvel Cosmic Invasion also in development. While DC has recently started to catch up with games like a new Batman title and DC Super Heroes United, they’re now finally creating a game similar to a long-running and beloved Marvel series – something fans have been waiting a long time for.
For years, Marvel fans have enjoyed Legendary, a popular deck-building game created by Upper Deck. Originally launched in 2012 with many expansions added since then, the game is now expanding to the DC universe. Upper Deck has announced Legendary: A DC Deck Building Game, bringing the same engaging gameplay to DC’s iconic heroes and villains.

Upper Deck says that players familiar with the Legendary card game should easily transition to the DC version, while also enjoying some exciting new features designed for the DC Universe.

Legendary: A DC Deck Building Game features 500 cards and can be played with 1 to 5 people, from beginners to experienced gamers – just like the popular Marvel version. The core of the game is teamwork; players join forces with their favorite heroes to defeat a powerful villain. However, you can also enjoy a solo experience or add a competitive element if you prefer.
DC heroes often have secret identities, and this game will reflect that! Certain cards will start as the hero’s everyday persona – like Bruce Wayne or Clark Kent – and then have the ability to transform into their famous superhero form, such as Batman or Superman.

The game features a ‘hope and fear’ system that significantly impacts gameplay. Generally, heroes increase hope, while villains increase fear. For example, Superman is a symbol of hope, while Batman often uses fear to his advantage. This creates interesting challenges when combining heroes like these in a team, and other characters are likely to add even more complexity to the balance.

Upper Deck has given fans a sneak peek at their upcoming set, including a new playmat, a ‘fear and hope’ track, and some of the cards. So far, we’ve seen cards featuring Starfire, The Flash, Batman, Superman, and The Joker, who appears to be a key villain in the set. While not all the cards have been revealed, the game’s artwork and playmat suggest that Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Martian Manhunter, and Aquaman will also be included.
We don’t have a release date for Legendary: A DC Deck Building Game yet, but we’ll share it as soon as we know. Many fans are eager for the game, and we’re hoping it will be available in late 2025 or early 2026.
